Long but worth it. This was the 3rd dealership we went to in 2 days. Shawn (sales rep) was very polite and friendly. While looking at the truck the salesman said that "we just changed the oil by law we have to change the oil". My wife and I have purchased many new and used cars over the years and never once have we heard of such law. We both looked at each other after he told us about the oil change law. Later in the purchasing process, I asked for service records and was told that they didn't have any records. I pushed the issue and was given access to the tablet, this showed the truck had been serviced by another dealership for maintenance and repairs. I found it odd that the salesmen would lie about service history. Service history typically provided added value to a used vehicle. This is when it was determined that the "required by law oil change" was not done. I continued with the purchase and negotiated tires, alignment and oil change. They offered a fair price for the trade in and the asking price for the truck was also fair. Not a super great deal, but within a fair market price. When I picked the truck up the tires were mounted the alignment had been done. I checked over the truck, to include checking the oil level. The oil level was one quart low. The oil filter housing was dusty and didn't have any clean or dirty marks from being recently removed. I was suspect at this point that the oil change or filter was not done. Part of my purchase was to include front and rear axle fluid changes. I checked the rear axle fill plug and it still had the factory paint on it. When I pulled the plug off the paint flaked off. I doubt the plug had ever been touched since factory install and paint over. Fuel Filter was also supposed to be changed and it too looked like it hadn't been touched in some time. With these visual clues, I wanted evidence before I posted this. I pulled a sample of oil and sent it to Blackstone Labs. Blackstone lab estimated the oil to have at least 1000 miles on it and it was not the correct weight of oil. My guess is the previous owner had the truck serviced at its 60k mile interval and traded it up shortly after the oil change. Based on the oil lab results and visual evidence I doubt the oil was changed as they said. More
