UPDATE: The clunking noise was found to be a be a bad right front strut. The service department replaced with a new Ford OEM strut and the clunking sound is resolved. And they resolved the step rail issu right front strut. The service department replaced with a new Ford OEM strut and the clunking sound is resolved. And they resolved the step rail issue to my satisfaction. I appreciate that the service department arranged to come pick up my Explorer so I did not have to find an alternate ride home, and they delivered the vehicle back to me when the service work was complete. I am happy once again. Right now I am not too happy with the Gerald Ford Service Department in Aurora. I had made an appointment to bring my vehicle in for a strange new clunking noise it is making. I was told I had to leave the vehicle even though I made a scheduled appointment in advance the week before. I was told they were "busy" even though I had an appointment. I had to ask multiple timed later in the day when I could get it back, and it was not until 7 PM that I was told they could not find the clunking noise. I was also told there was a lot of loose gravel in the skid plate (which I did not know I had a skid plate), and being the only driver of the vehicle, at 10k miles it has never seen an unpaved road, so not sure what that story is all about. Getting the vehicle home and opening the rear passenger door to put our grandson's car seat back in, the bottom corner of the door rubber on the step rail. Looking closer, I notice yellow scuff marks and dents like from a vehicle lift that bent either the vehicle mounting tabs or the step rail bracket. I took the car seat out that morning so I know this had to happen while in Gerald Ford custody. So I got my vehicle back in worse shape than when I took it in. I called to speak with the Service Manager, but so far no call back to discuss this. So I got my vehicle back in worse condition that when I dropped it off. I wish they had just told me and we agreed how to resolve rather than hoping I would not notice the damage. And their text message progress updates is worthless. So right now, I do not recommend Gerald Ford of North Aurora. More to follow if they contact me to discuss. More
