Caution for used car buyers Buyer beware! If you are thinking about purchasing a used car from Feldman Waterford, you may want to read our story, to avoid finding yourself in a Buyer beware! If you are thinking about purchasing a used car from Feldman Waterford, you may want to read our story, to avoid finding yourself in a bad and potentially unsafe situation. In March 2016, we purchased an older Civic from Feldman Waterford. During the process of inspecting the vehicle, we were assured numerous times by the salesman that the vehicle had been thoroughly checked by their technicians, and that we could be confident that the car was in “good shape” and there were no safety issues or concerns. Being a used car, and an older car, we understood the vehicle might have some minor issues. Within 5 minutes of taking delivery of the vehicle, a serious problem occurred. Any time the cruise control was set, the vehicle accelerated in an uncontrolled manner, and the only way it could be stopped was to turn the ignition off. Very exciting to say the least – especially in rush hour traffic! We immediately contacted the dealer, which began a multi-day discussion by phone, text, and email with both the salesman and his management. After numerous exchanges, the position of the dealer was that uncontrolled acceleration is not a safety issue (yikes!) and that the dealer would not take responsibility to repair the problem. Their position was that any used vehicle is sold “as is”, even if it is unsafe or has a serous defect that was present at the time of sale. Bottom line – don’t believe this dealer when they state a used vehicle has been thoroughly inspected, and understand this dealer will take zero responsibility for a used vehicle after sale – even if it was clear it had an undisclosed safety defect. More
