New Car Sales I called Chapman Mazda on Tuesday talk to Jacob the salesman that answered the phone that I wanted to buy the Jeep Cherokee they had for sale. I am al I called Chapman Mazda on Tuesday talk to Jacob the salesman that answered the phone that I wanted to buy the Jeep Cherokee they had for sale. I am already pre-approved with a credit union I will not be financing through them and want to know what I have to do to hold that car for my bank to reach out to them on Wednesday. I was told to come down test drive the car and sign a contract to “just” hold the car. My mother father and I drove down to test drive the car it had minor things that needed to be fixed but was an easy fix. My mother and father left and I went inside to “just” hold the car and that was it. But as soon as I sat down I started to be hounded about financing numbers terms and loan amounts. I told Jacob 3 times, I was already pre approved through my credit union and im not sign anything. A sales manager approached me and started to tell me at 830pm at night that they can call or electronically work with the bank and handle all my paperwork for me. I told him no he wont be doing that, the bank is closed we wont be talking to anyone and I left. Jacob followed me to my car and knocked on my window as I was leaving, I shook my head no at him and continued to leave. Jacob called me the next day I told him I don’t appreciate being hounded the second my father leaves and he advised that he didn’t understand what was going on and wasnt sure how to handle a pre approval. I told him I would have my bank contact them Im not dealing the dealer any longer til the car is paid for. I went to my bank Wednesday afternoon had them handle all the paperwork contracts warranty, etc with the dealer. I went back to dealer to pick up the Jeep get my tags and registration. Jacob did have the minor things fixed, dome lights and rotate tires. He had me sign multiple things as expected and then I went finance, to as expected to sign my paperwork. The finance woman proceed to ask me personal questions about what my interest rate is, my monthly payment, how much I paid for my warranty, etc. I told her im not sure the amount and my not disclosing my interest rate to her. She decides to put down the decision process to finance my car. I smile and nodded got my keys and left. The next morning I leave to go to work and noticed that my car is not driving correctly and it driving rough when in reverse. I take it to my mechanic and find out that the Jeep’s motor mounts and struts all the way around and completely shot and that the dealer should have fixed this prior to selling, this kind of work would cost me close to $1000. I take the diagnostic form to the Mazda service dept and talk to Justin in service. Justin walked me right into new car sales and has me talk to Paul Dodge, sales manager. I showed the diagnostics form and what was wrong with the Jeep and what needed to be fixed. Paul asked me “Well your dad was here and test drove the car with you and he said anything was okay so whats the problem?” I told Paul, “Yes my father was here to test drive the car with me, but what does that have to do with anything?” My father come with me to test drive and car and help with the process is only a problem because you cant swindle a women and you wouldnt say anything about my father if he was sitting here with me right now. Paul refused to fix the problem with my Jeep and I had the Jeep for less than 12 hrs, I would have to fix the motor mounts and struts on my own dime. He told me that by law he didn’t have to fix the car, so I told Paul to show me that law. He walked away and had Rita the customer service employee come speak to me and she told me that she understands how im feeling since women have to be careful in males dominated industries. I told her I wanted the car fix or take it back, she said she cant do that, that I bought a warranty and I would have to use that to get it fix. Then she tells me that Chapman Mazda has a “As is” clause in their contracts that was not explained to me at time of purchase by Jacob. This clause to my understanding is a per location dealership decision. First time that I have heard of this clause from any dealer. Rita advised that they aren’t going to take the car back and that can I would have pay for the problem myself or use my warranty that I received thru my credit union. I decided to leave the dealer after talking to Rita has we were at a stale mate and Paul was being disrespectful to me and my father. I feel very strongly that Paul and his employees were disrespectful to me because I decided not to finance through them or buy a warranty through them and because they couldn’t make money off me they decided to treat me unfairly. Jacob needs to have more training on explaining processes to his customers and understanding what pre-approvals from outside institutions are. I would advised anyone in the future to make sure you ask about their “As Is” clause and what that entails for you specifically. I also would make sure that if you’re a female going through the process alone with Chapman Mazda to steer clear of Paul Dodge. I shouldn’t be treated unfairly because I am a female or because I decided not to finance through them. I will never return to Chapman Mazda or refer anyone to work with them. Definitely treating this as a lesson learned and will be asking more question in the future. More

I was greeted kindly by Nick and he took me through the full process from start to finish. Nick was knowledgeable and presented me with all my options, but I didn’t feel any pressure to choose one option over another, nor did I feel rushed through the process. They also worked with me on my particular financial situation where I was awaiting funds from my insurance. Thanks for a great experience! 👍👍 More
