My purchase with Carmax was easy. We had to transfer in from another state, but it still went great. Our customer service was outstanding. Would do this again if nneeded. Our sales associate, Sydney Fox, was fun and helpful. That said, while I don't regret this 2nd purchase from CarMax, there were several notable differences in the two experiences: The first time, CarMax That said, while I don't regret this 2nd purchase from CarMax, there were several notable differences in the two experiences: The first time, CarMax Finance went above and beyond to beat the interest rate from our bank. This time had a very "take it or leave it" feel to it. It isn't a terrible rate, I just didn't leave the finance department with the feeling of being a valued customer, like I did the first time. Both times, the cars I purchased had minor damage to interior finishes. First time, the work was done or the parts were ordered and scheduled before I took the car home. This time, no one seems particularly interested in understanding my description, let alone in a hurry to make it right. And speaking of the interiors: CarMax Service got that first car so clean before I took it home, that even when I had it detailed several years later, I wasn't as impressed. This time, I asked that they clean the seat belts and the ceiling in particular. This wasn't done. I noticed a couple days later that the inside of the windshield hadn't even been cleaned. And finally, CarMax referred me to "Car Key Express," to order a secondary key fob, with a link that would enable a 20% discount to CarMax customers. If that was 20% less than their competitive best, they're already a rip off. Then, they charged my card before I finished the order, promised a refund when I couldn't finish the order, and now I've had to dispute the charge through my bank, because they took my money and split, as it were. Overall, I'm happy with the car; I'm happy with both purchases. I'm not nearly as impressed with their follow-up services as I was the first time. More
I have done business with Carmax in Albuquerque New Mexico in the past and came back because their concept and its execution were great. But my most recent experience was not good. The sales process overall was ok but their service department was really sub par. They don’t answer their phone and they don’t return messages left in their voice mail system. And so the rest just goes downhill from there. I won’t go into detail about the missteps, but if you can’t get ahold of anyone, the details really don’t matter. More
