We waited a bit but had to leave as we were there to test drive the car which was not close to being readily available and had to relieve our child care. We rescheduled for a few days later during a slower recommended day and time. When we showed up for our appointment we weee told the same thing they were running behind. This time was different it was the middle of the work day AND the kids were getting out of school. When we make appointment times they must be honored. That is the point of making an appointment. Our appointment times were not honored and we had to walk away from a car that we were most likely going to purchase. Instead, we made the decision that we would pay a bit more somewhere else. I do not recommend CarMax. I felt very disrespected. I am very disappointed. More
Initially we bought a 2018 Chevy Malibu, we were told that a safety inspection (125 point inspection, stated on their website) was preformed, we had the windows tinted professionally and had rain guards that a safety inspection (125 point inspection, stated on their website) was preformed, we had the windows tinted professionally and had rain guards installed which were not refunded. About 3 days after purchase we found out that rats were in the engine bay that had chewed through lines, huge safety issue, as well as no weather proofing on the roof and rear windshield, which led to major water damage to the interior and exterior of the back of the vehicle. CarMax has been nothing but unprofessional and inconsistent in their dealings. After the issue was brought to their attention they purchased it back. Then a Chrysler 300 was purchased in which the engine was squealing, the hood cowl was severely warped, and the windshield was badly chipped, again failing to maintain their own “125 point inspection” standard. Now after the windshield and cowl were replaced we are back at CarMax again as we were told the serpentine belt was replaced and the engine pulleys were “greased” as a purely temporary fix signaling to us that they insist on treating symptoms rather than actually fixing the issue. We are back at CarMax, again because surprise the engine bay is still squealing on cold start. So after being told new pulleys were ordered we find out that pulleys were never ordered and the technician stated that he never greased the pulleys. This pulley issue alone is a 5-week ongoing issue. Again here we are paying for a car that is held in a shop hoping that the issue is actually addressed and properly fixed and the shortcuts and lying stop. And we won’t get into the issue where they refused to pay the entire loan off of the previous vehicle (a second car we had for 1 day from them) that they were actively trying to sell on their lot, that ordeal lasted 4 weeks, 3 phone calls, 3 visits to CarMax, and it wasn’t until I threatened with a lawsuit with a Navy JAG that the issue was resolved. They hope you don’t find the issues with the vehicles they are selling, but still claim a “125-point inspection.” This has all occurred since March 12, 2023 to present day. It just feels to us that Carmax is trying their best to get us past their 90 day warranty so that we are forced to pay out of pocket. More
By far the worst experience of car buying I've had in a long time. My vehicle was appraised and they offered 27k for it. I found a vehicle that I liked on their lot for 35k. Donte who assisted me tried to long time. My vehicle was appraised and they offered 27k for it. I found a vehicle that I liked on their lot for 35k. Donte who assisted me tried to be sneaky with his numbers and didn't include my appraised vehicle and added a maxcare plan I never agreed on and gave me a total of 44k. Called him out on it and the numbers drastically changed and it came down to what they were supposed to be "really". After deal was finalized I was told that the odometer is off during the time it was in Arizona and registered there with a previous owner. keep in mind, the deal was done and ready to be finalized. They told me I had to call the AZ DMV and get a letter of correction to pretty much say that the DMV messed, which is clearly what happened in this case. I did, AZ DMV told me there's nothing they can do since the vehicle is no longer there and pretty much its not their problem,, anymore. These guys knew that I got a good deal, didn't want me to get it and are finding ways for me not to get it. I was told, Donte was going to reach out to me. HE NEVER CALLED ME ONCE! I had to call a couple of times to see what the status was and explained this issue. I kept being told that "he is going to call you in 10 minutes". almost 24hrs later and still nothing. I ended up canceling my loan because I never heard anything back. Customer Service here is horrible! And if you don't pay close attention to what they do, they'll trick you into adding more $$$$ than what they initially said. Please steer away from places like this the moment you feel like something isn't right. I am taking this complaint up to Corporate. I still cant believe that no one ever reached out to me in regards to my purchase. Please, if you do decide to go here. Don't have DONTE help you. He's not really good at it. More
Had a lemon, carmax refunded our money We bought a subaru outback from Carmax a few months ago that ended up having some emissions control problems that were caused by additions put on the We bought a subaru outback from Carmax a few months ago that ended up having some emissions control problems that were caused by additions put on the car by a prior owner. Carmax management admitted that they should have recognized the problem and never sold the car to us. They decided to buy our car back from us for full price. It was great not having to get stuck with a broken car with 6k plus in repairs, and allowing us the opportunity to buy a higher quality car. Because they were so willing and easy to work with us on our broken vehicle, we bought another car from them and will be happy to continue buying vehicles from them in the future. I highly recommend this dealership and their service department. They were very honest with us and willing to make us happy. Definitely consider buying your used vehicle here if you're looking. More
Buyer Beware I'm just putting this out there in case you are car shopping at CarMax San Diego (and perhaps all of them). DON'T DO IT! Seriously, they do NOT do 125 I'm just putting this out there in case you are car shopping at CarMax San Diego (and perhaps all of them). DON'T DO IT! Seriously, they do NOT do 125 point inspections. It's all xx. If you buy a car from them, the next place that car needs to go to is a certified mechanic (one that comes recommended for the make of the car). Oil leaks, a broken motor mount and seeping fluid coming from a front differential transfer case is NOT hard to spot and probably not a good buy if the car is only 4 years old and has less than 50K miles on it. So...if the car is a VW Touareg TDI, the price is under 30K, AND you are at CarMax...RUN AWAY... More
