The start of my purchase at CarMax Dulles was good. I took the car home, went to program my radio and found the touch screen didn't work, found several scratches in the front window and the rubber seal o took the car home, went to program my radio and found the touch screen didn't work, found several scratches in the front window and the rubber seal on the sun roof was damaged. I called the sales man and he asked that I contact the service department and they would handle it. So, I couldn't get a appointment until after my 7 day return time was up. Note, I only had the car a week prior to dropping it off. I drop the car off on September 29th and didn't get my car back until October 20th (over 3 weeks). The radio was replaced and I was told a new seal would be install in the sun roof but not the case as they attempted to glue the old gasket in place which pulled out as soon as I opened the sun roof. I was also told that the scratches in the window would not be addressed as it wasn't that bad and James told me we had to spend a lot replacing the radio and we're not replacing the glass because it meets our standards. I went to Car Max because I thought I would get quality service and a good car. I guess selling a car with a malfunctioning radio, possible leaking sun roof and damaged wind shield is how they do business. I guess they are okay with it. Make sure you look over the car very well if you plan to purchase here. Last thing, they want me to bring the car back to replace the seal that should have been done while the cars was there for 3 weeks. I guess they want to keep it another few weeks while they make a second attempt to fixing it. xxxx, I just got it back and you need me to drop it off again. Like More
Donna is great. Sold and bought my last cars in 2 hours. I was initially skeptical of Carmax, but you've got to know what you're looking for and do your research on price. I had found the car I was looking for (2014 GLI) that had all the right options and was priced pretty competitively. Donna was my salesperson and she was super friendly and made the car buying and trading-in process really easy and painless. Usually I would only write a review if a dealership sucked, but I've been pretty impressed with Carmax in Dulles and Potomac Mills. Donna in Dulles is the best. I'll recommend her to my friends all day, every day. More
Despite the numerous terrible things I've heard about Carmax I decided to give them a try in an attempt to sell my mothers Lexus GX470 and purchase a smaller more economical vehicle all through the same Carmax I decided to give them a try in an attempt to sell my mothers Lexus GX470 and purchase a smaller more economical vehicle all through the same dealership. I will not name the salesman I dealt with online as I don't believe he deserves called out by name and quite frankly all the sales reps at that dealership seemed similar. While not unfriendly, the salesman seemed to treat me almost as a waste of time. While their appraisal team appraised my vehicle the salesman took me for a walk to check out some of the vehicles I was interested in as my mother is handicapped and cannot make these journeys herself. He did offer to open allow me to inspect each vehicle I inquired about and but did not offer any extra information on any vehicle and wasn't able to answer specific questions. Upon returning to his office he showed me the offer Carmax was willing to pay for my vehicle which was $16K. Even in poor to fair condition this vehicle should garner a minimum of 21K. Everyone has their own opinion on the condition of their own vehicle but objectively I would consider my vehicle to qualify somewhere between good and very good on the KBB scale. Granted Carmax makes it clear they use "auction price" when appraising vehicles, but lowballing me 5K only to flip a profit on it seems like something Carmax claims they do not do in their mission statement. In closing, Carmax is a sham. You get the same pressure to buy (i.e. "What would it take for you to drive away in this car today?"), but don't even get a chance to attempt negotiating a better deal. I will never recommend Carmax to anyone. Purchasing a vehicle should be an exciting experience, these people prey on the fears others have of negotiating. More
Don't waste your time with any carmax. Most of my friends have bought cars from carmax and each one of us have regretted it. I bought a car and had a problem immediately with the brakes. They kept it for a f have bought cars from carmax and each one of us have regretted it. I bought a car and had a problem immediately with the brakes. They kept it for a few days and said it was fixed but the moment I drove it off the lot I had problems. I drove to a chevy dealership right next to my house and the problem was fixed within a hour. Carmax wasted my time and my money. And you know what carmax offered? $400 worth of free services...This service was free and I had a horrible time, what do you think more free service would do for me. Use anyone but carmax... More
