We traded our model 3 for an updated model Y. It was a fair deal for the Y but a poor trade for the 3. Trade in is good since you drop the price of your purchase and the taxes associated with the trade in but CarMax undervalued the Model 3 in comparison to other dealers. We traded for the convenience but not a fair trade. The purchase was to be speedy, but it took 2.5 hrs for the purchase for paperwork, even on expedited checkout. Also our request to have the a few items checked on the car prior to purchase were never done as promised eg remove the CarMax sticker on the car, wash the car or even charge it prior to pick up. I’m not sure what they all do since there was abundant staff standing around . The benefit I guess is no hassling on prices but not sure I enjoyed the process as much as a conventional car dealer. The assistant that helped us was nice and efficient, and they still get commission for sales so not sure if it helped us much other than a pass through trade for an updated model EV. I would have preferred a different venue but they had the only car available at the time. I personally don’t recommend it’s my personal opinion. More

This could have easily been a 5 star rating. The car was available, the sales staff was great. We decided to purchase. I was paying cash. I couldn't contact my bank (message said 15 minute w The car was available, the sales staff was great. We decided to purchase. I was paying cash. I couldn't contact my bank (message said 15 minute wait online). Sales person said certified check from the bank was the way to go. The bank closes at 2:00 pm on Saturdays. I drove to the bank and got one. The business center at the dealership said that because people had been counterfeiting checks, they needed to see my actual bank account so they knew I had the money in that account. That was ridiculous, invasive and insulting. I ended up showing the account balance.(because the bank was now closed) and they had no other way to verify that the check (a cashier's check from the bank) was real. I had enough remaining to purchase the care even after the amount of the check had been previously deducted. But what about someone that doesn't have that remaining in their account after getting a check from their bank? I recognize that we live in bad times, but the answer isn't to treat your honest, hard working customers like they are criminals. I was paying cash/cashier's check for a car for college. This was a special time for us (wife, daughter and me). This part of this transaction really put a damper on this for us. We love the car, our salesman was very nice and helpful, but this policy needs to be abandoned...yesterday! More
