Expectations Exceeded Like many people, my past experience with buying cars has been one wrought with frustration, aggravation and disappointment. I was looking for a late Like many people, my past experience with buying cars has been one wrought with frustration, aggravation and disappointment. I was looking for a late model LR4 and came upon one that caught my eye at Byers. Upon watching a video on the aforementioned car, the guy that does the videos for Byers (not an employee) was calling out some of the salespeople by name and talking about how they're "really good guys", easy to work with, etc. Of course, I had my doubts as to the authenticity of those statements. Initially, I was speaking with Ryan on the phone, who was extremely friendly and appeared to be genuine, rather than smarmy, pushy, etc. My wife and I drove up to Byers from Cincinnati and met Ryan when we arrived. Unfortunately, Ryan was tied up with another issue and introduced us to Steve, that would be taking care of us. I was initially a little hesitant/disappointed because my interaction with Ryan had been so positive...'what was going to happen now?'. I have to say, Steve has been the best car salesperson I've worked with in my 20+ years of buying/leasing cars. My xx meter is very much accurate and intact, and Steve couldn't have been more genuine. There was not one ounce of pushiness during our conversation and additionally, he didn't go back to the 'wizard behind the curtain' 25 times, only to come back with another unacceptable number. Of course, he wanted to make the sale, but I genuinely felt like he wanted to do what he could to get us in the car we wanted. He was very personable, we talked about our families, etc., and it never once felt forced or inauthentic. My wife even commented on the way home about how pleasant an experience it was and how nice a guy Steve was. This is long-winded, but it's only because this experience was an exception and a complete standout by comparison to what I've encountered at other dealerships for years. The long and short...we ended buying the car, we love it and when applicable, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to make the trek back to Columbus to work with Byers/Steve again. To be honest, I would look forward to it. It's only been a few days since we purchased our car and I've already told many people in Cincinnati, as well as, friends in Columbus that Byers is without a doubt, the place to go to buy your car. I took it home to show my teens, and decided to purchase it. I haven’t driven a car for many years after having had vans and SUVs but this Jetta rides like butter and makes me smile.
