I took my car in to get a diagnostic done. I got told there’s nothing wrong with it when i heard clunking and there’s a delay from the pedal to the motor. All they did the first time was hook I got told there’s nothing wrong with it when i heard clunking and there’s a delay from the pedal to the motor. All they did the first time was hook it up to see if there was any codes and there wasn’t. I than had them put it on lift and actually check it and nothing was wrong. I took it the next day to another mechanic and he told me what was wrong just by driving it. When they go with you on a drive to hear what’s wrong, make sure it’s not a service person and it’s an actual tech. More

I brought my used 2020 Gladiator in to have my steering gear box replaced. My Jeep has an aluminum steering gear box easily identified by the fact it is not painted black with a rust preventative like the gear box replaced. My Jeep has an aluminum steering gear box easily identified by the fact it is not painted black with a rust preventative like the more rust prone steel gearbox. Was told previously either a new steel Mopar gearbox or possibly an aftermarket PSC gearbox was an option. I did my due diligence before even going into the dealer service department and researched into Mopar TSB’s and known issues with the current models and found that the 2019 to 2020 Gladiators as well as the 2018 to 2020 Wranglers were assembled with an inferior aluminum steering gear box that was prone to excess movement within the frame mount, causing a floating or dead space feeling in the steering which my Gladiator has. So I made the appointment knowing my vehicle is outside of warranty coverage and it is fully my choice to elect to pay to have the steering gear box replaced and deal with any follow on issues as a result. I clearly stated this before the appointment was made and when I dropped it off I was advised originally to make an appointment and the dealership service department “technician” would advise further. When I arrived at my appointment Kolton took over handling my service appointment. Later that afternoon half an hour before service center closing hours Kolton called and informed me and my wife that the sandwich artist doing the inspection found no issues with my steering and Kolton recommended a steering dampener at $500 estimate. I neither requested a band aid fix to mask any potential underlying steering issues nor would I ever pay $500 for a steering dampener when I can a new Fox piggyback dampener for $300 which would be a significant upgrade from the stock dampener. Kolton attempted to demonstrate a vague sense of automotive basics and stated the steering on my Gladiator was significantly different than the Wranglers and they did not use the aluminum gear box in the Gladiators. He also told me the dealership service department could not get a PSC brand gearbox and they would not install an aftermarket product which is complete B.S. as all dealerships handle aftermarket products that vary depending on who they have accounts with through the parts department. My feelings at this point is it is either incompetence or dishonesty on the technicians part and absolutely incompetence on Kolton’s part. I arrived to pick up my Gladiator the next day with a printout of the TSB related to the aluminum gearbox in hand. I tried to educate Kolton to the fact all of his statements were incorrect and why. Kolton again tried to argue with me that they did not use the aluminum gearbox in the Gladiator and that the TSB had been superseded by a new one stating the Gladiators did not have any gearbox issues. No doubt his incompetence blinded him to the fact the manufacturer discontinued use of the aluminum gearbox after 2020. Either way it was my intent and my choice yet an ignorant service rep felt the need to advise a band aid fix and condescendingly ignore my twenty years of building rock crawlers beginning with a complete frame off rebuild of a YJ converting it from four to six. I know far more about 4x4 SAS than Kolton does and irregardless of his relationship with the technician it is extremely unprofessional to argue with and correct the customer while recommending a temporary fix for steering issues with an overpriced part. Especially accounting for it was my stated intent to pay to have the gearbox replaced. Additionally my father’s still new 2023 compass with less than 20k miles on it has been in to this service department several times to diagnose a slow oil leak. Every time they say no leak has been found and yet the spots in the driveway prove different. This happens when you have stupid lazy dishonest technicians who rather than provide warranty servicing, to correct a slow oil leak, wipe it down and toss it back to the customer saying no leak found.
