My wife and I were looking for a new car for her, since she will have a long commute, and we wanted something safe in all weather, so Subaru was my first choice. We went to Bertera Subaru since they have been around for a long time, and I've known of them since I was going to high school at West Side High. We were meet by Jarrod who is very friendly, professional and, which is important, not at all pushy. Even tho he just recently started there, he was able to answer, or get the answer to any and all questions we had about the inventory, details about the car, and everything else poured upon him. I would highly recommend Jarrod since I feel he actually cares about you and your purchase of a vehicle. He knew our financial capabilities and didn't push us into a vehicle that he knew we couldn't afford (even tho I love the legacy GT) Jarrod followed up a couple times to see how we liked the car we got (2011 Legacy) and the car is fantastic! Smooth ride, comfortable, sporty, better gas mileage than a chevy cobalt. A great car indeed! We have yet to have our new car serviced, so I will not comment on their service department. BUT! I am very happy with Bertera Subaru and I will definatly return there when I am looking for a replacement vehicle. More
This is the second preowned Subaru I have purchased from Bertera and while in both cases the car was a solid buy, every time I walked out of the dealership I felt used, drained, and mildly angry. These Bertera and while in both cases the car was a solid buy, every time I walked out of the dealership I felt used, drained, and mildly angry. These people play extreme hardball once they sense you have any serious interest and will use confusion tactics and delay to try to pressure a buyer into agreeing to their terms or to use up your time, keeping you from checking other alternatives. They also preemptively run unneccessary credit checks just for test driving a car. One can argue that they're 'good at their jobs' however it comes off as looking to get everything they can out of the sale for themselves rather than trying to make a customer for life. Positive aspects of our experience: - Salesperson was friendly - Salesperson was helpful in showing us the cars we requested to test drive - Timely handling of registration/insurance paperwork was done - Price of vehicle was lowered somewhat to offset the cost of some minor repairs requested (to be performed by us, the buyers, in our home garage) - Decent trade in allowance receieved for our old car Negative aspects of our experience: -If you have above average automotive knowledge, chances are you will know more than most of the staff here. IE: Who DOESNT change timing belt tensioners and idler pulleys on interference engine applications? I was told by the service manager that Bertera doesnt! - Being disregarded when stating the exact price we wanted to pay. NEVER answer the question "How much per month can you afford" or the "I need to ask my manager" games will start. - When it came time to sign papers and take delivery of the car, WE WERE KEPT WAITING FOR 45 MINUTES. In the business I'm in, when a customer has a check written out to you in hand you help them immediately. We felt this wait was absurd. It was time for them to collect thier money for the car and I percieved it like they didnt care. - We chose to finance through our own bank. The finance manager was clearly angered by this and acted somewhat unprofessional in our opinion. Then he appeared to frantically look for ways to make more money with add-ons rather than simply process the papers needed to close the sale. At one point I nearly suggested ripping up the bank checks and walking out simply because of his attitude. - Once the papers were signed and the checks were handed over we were abandoned in the showroom for what seemed like 10 minutes before anyone was willing to help us collect the car we just paid for. Even our salesperson wasn't sure what to do next and no one was willing to even help him. Overall I wouldnt rate this as a BERTERRIBLE experience however there HAS to be other car dealers out there that are better than this and have a different business model other than "xxxx the customer for as much cash as possible". Next time we are in the market to purchase a car we will try elsewhere and compare experiences. I fear for the average person who treats cars like appliances who set foot in there. They must get Berterrorized to the nth degree. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berterrorism side show: A week after taking delivery of the car we were contacted by the dealership & they asked what it would take for us to return the car. Apparently the previous owner who traded it in wanted it back for sentimental reasons. Initially we were skeptical and wondered about the intentions of the dealer in doing this. Was the story true? Was it a BS way to get us to spend more or sell us a more expensive car? Ultimately the story ended up being true, but the sheer fact they even considered this was shocking. More
I recently purchased a used Subaru Legacy Sedan from Bertera, and couldn't be happier! When I decided to start shopping for a vehicle, a Subaru wasn't even on my list as a prospect. I looked at Toyota Bertera, and couldn't be happier! When I decided to start shopping for a vehicle, a Subaru wasn't even on my list as a prospect. I looked at Toyota's Camry, Nissan's Altima, and Honda's Accord, but when I test-drove the Legacy, I fell in love. The icing on the cake was dealing with Bertera Subaru. This dealership truly worked as a team. Nuno Marques was my very knowledgable salesman, and I couldn't have asked for one who was more accomodating (He even dropped my husband and I off for breakfast while he ran my car over for it's inspection sticker!). After I put a deposit on my Subaru, I returned to the dealership with my husband to show him my new vehicle - Nuno had gone home for the day, but I had the great pleasure of dealing with Darrin, another one of Bertera's salesmen. It was raining, and he was busy with his own customers, but he was kind enough to take us out to the car - with a smile on his face, and a wonderful attitude! Tom in finance was terrific - he got me a lower interest rate on my loan than I was able to find myself. Mark, the general manager, was always quick with a hello, and I sincerely thank him for his willingness to negotiate a price that I feel was more than fair. Great job, Bertera Subaru! More
Although, I did not purchase a Subaru, I want to remark that Nuno was an excellent salesperson and I would highly recommend seeing Nuno should you want to purchase a Subaru. Nuno offered me the opportunity that Nuno was an excellent salesperson and I would highly recommend seeing Nuno should you want to purchase a Subaru. Nuno offered me the opportunity to take the car home for a day. Also, the test-drive of the Legacy sedan was noteworthy. In fact, a State Police officer stopped me because I was going too fast on city streets. He just gave me a verbal warning and it was to say the least a fun experience. Nuno followed up with several phone calls. However, in the end we purchased a different car. The Subaru Legacy was our second choice and had the "deal" been closer to the deal we received on the Hyundai Sonata, it would have been a difficult choice. I would highly recommend Nuno for anyone interested in a Subaru. More
I had two problem with your dealership. 1) On the day we came to pick up our car, your business manager made us wait 45 minutes, even though we had an appointment set up in advance. I think this was extreme came to pick up our car, your business manager made us wait 45 minutes, even though we had an appointment set up in advance. I think this was extremely rude. 2) We asked you to install a trailer hitch and a bicycle rack. You installed the wrong trailer hitch and did not install the bicycle rack. When we got home, we found something was wrong, and are having to come back twice to get this fixed. On the plus side, however, your salesman, Max Salvatore, was outstanding. He was knowledgeable, friendly and informative. Our experience with him was top rate. This is the third car we have bought from a Bertera deadlership. We bought two Mercury Sable wagons. Our past experiences had been very good. More
We had a great experience buying a pre-owned vehicle at Bertera Subaru. Darren Diaz was very helpful, friendly and accommodating. He made himself accessible, answering all of our return calls promptly and Bertera Subaru. Darren Diaz was very helpful, friendly and accommodating. He made himself accessible, answering all of our return calls promptly and addressing any concerns with honesty and professionalism. We felt well-taken care of by Darrin, as well as by Rob, who volunteered to stay after hours to help us complete the necessary paperwork in order to save us from having to make an extra trip (a two hour round-trip drive). Bertera knows how to take care of their customers. More
My experience purchasing a vehicle at Bertera Subaru is the way it should be everywhere. Purchasing a vehicle, new or used is supposed to be a fun experience, however, over the years, it has become almost the way it should be everywhere. Purchasing a vehicle, new or used is supposed to be a fun experience, however, over the years, it has become almost painful at most dealerships. Everyone at Betera, from my salesperson, Darrin to the GM, Shawn were extremely accommodating, friendly, professional and really made my buying experience an enjoyable one. Subaru is a quality vehicle and Bertera is a quality dealership! If you haven't gone there yet, you owe it to yourself to put it on your short list! More
Jonathan Birriel was VERY HELPFUL! He explained all the features of the Forrester we bought and was very calm and not pushy! My wife and I felt relaxed while we were dealing with Jonathan, which is import features of the Forrester we bought and was very calm and not pushy! My wife and I felt relaxed while we were dealing with Jonathan, which is important when you are spending a considerable amount of money. We recently went to this dealership to purchase a new Forester and worked with Jonathan Birriel as out sales consultant. He was absolutely FABULOUS!! While there he educated us about some of the not so Forester and worked with Jonathan Birriel as out sales consultant. He was absolutely FABULOUS!! While there he educated us about some of the not so common features that most models of Subarus have to offer and was never pushy regarding the sale of a vehicle. He followed up on our purchase, twice, just to make sure we were satified (We were!). He truely went above the call of duty for us! This was the most enjoyable, stress free, car purchase we have made to date! Thank you so much for your help. More
When I was buying a used car I decided to look at Bertera Subaru in West Springfield, MA. Their stock is marginal at best and to own two other car Brand dealerships across the street, makes me think that Sub Subaru in West Springfield, MA. Their stock is marginal at best and to own two other car Brand dealerships across the street, makes me think that Subaru is low on the priority list. Today I had an oil change appointment scheduled for 1:00 pm. After arriving and handing off my car to the service people I waited in their "new" waiting area. While waiting for over 2 hours for an oil change and tire rotation, I went back to ask what was taking so long and got no answers. I asked their 'Parts' Desk, if that's what you would like to call it, and they didn't have the replacement battery for my Keyless Entry system. The individual had already thrown my Old Battery old and had to dig through the garbage to locate the old one. After I left their location I noticed something was wrong with my vehicle that wasn't an issue when I dropped it off. I called and asked to schedule an appointment to get it looked at and the person assisting me was very rude and condescending. So if you do want to pay for service that you don't get, wait two hours for a scheduled oil change, and be pissed off every time you leave their service center, you should definitely go else where to purchase a Subaru.
