Used Advantage BMW for yrs, excellent service (Kevin Kommany), quite disappointed and surprised that my level 1 maintenance warranty @ 40kmi didn’t cover a $3,000 cost for an active safety sensor chip f More

John - Thank you for your continued business. Unfortunately, the Pre-Owned car you purchased from a 3rd party dealership does not come with the same warranty that it might if purchased from a BMW dealership. The extended warranty you purchased is not a BMW warrant but an aftermarket 3rd party one also. The price of the upgrade in the factory is upgrading one part to a new part, so the cost of the upgrade is just that, upgrading. Now, since the part has failed, you must pay for the entire cost of it, not just the upgrade. That helps you understand the cost factor. Thank you for the opportunity to continue serving you. Sincerely, Stephen Prather General Manager

Mr. Prather, your response is complete nonsense, perhaps your staff incorrectly informed you? Here are the facts: 1) That I bought my Pre-Owned 2019 BMW xDrive 40i on 11/13/19 from from a "3rd party dealership" is completely false. It was purchased from AutoBahn BMW Fort Worth, TX (within the Autobahn Motorcar Group; go to BMW USA and see that it is a Certified BMW Dealership), and was registered that same day by Autobahn Motorcars in my purchase of a BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade Agreement (an Enrolled Vehicle with BMW of North America, LLC). That Program Maintenance covers until 36 months have passed once placed in service or 36,000 miles. 2) Prior to both of those limits, I purchased an Extended Maintenance Upgrade Program on October 28, 2022, at a cost of $749, for 60 months or 75,000 miles, from Advantage BMW Service Department, which was noted on my Service invoice that day. There was never mention of "an aftermarket 3rd party," had there been one I would have signed an agreement with that company. Accordingly, your statement that I purchased an "aftermarket 3rd party" extended maintenance agreement is also not correct. Either way, Advantage BMW would be the legally responsible party. 3) Regarding the "cost of the upgrade," your explanation is confusing re what is applicable part(s), particularly as my Service Advisor noted that the failed front radar sensor affecting distance control and cross control was (now?) part of a very large "chip / semiconductor" and that I had to pay for that, not just the radar sensor and the cost was upward of $4,000. As a CPA this doesn't feel like good accounting! It appears from your justification language to not pay part or all of the repair was based on your understanding that I did not use BMW dealerships to purchase my car(s), buy BMW warranties, or BMW or Advantage maintenance programs for the vehicles. Fact is I've bought four BMWs since 2010 and they've all been well maintained solely by Advantage (since I live in Houston). I think it is unjust asking me to pay for the "large semiconductor" covering a lot of functions rather than an applicable portion for the radar sensor. I have been well served by Advantage but this event has had significant impact on my expected continued relationship with Advantage. I offered to pay an appropriate amount in my first reply (~3-$600) and would still. John Somers
