I bought a car from Phillips because they had the car I wanted: a red Chevy Bolt. It wasn't because of the service. I would not recommend them. Rami might boast about being the top salesperson in Illino wanted: a red Chevy Bolt. It wasn't because of the service. I would not recommend them. Rami might boast about being the top salesperson in Illinois, but I switched to a saleswoman because I didn't want to be treated the way he treated me. (I am a woman.) True, I could have given him more notice that I wasn't going to come look at the car when I said I was--I was dealing with a death in my family--but that didn't warrant the response I got from him. After purchasing the car, the saleswoman started sending me messages requesting I write a review. I did not respond because I did not want to leave her a negative review. She was nice, but when she showed me the car, she said it had safety features which I knew it did not have (and wish it did). I knew her product better than she did. She was on her cellphone on personal matters while helping me. Her goal, she said, was to get me in and out quickly, but that was not my goal. I was buying a car from a dealer for the first time and had not owned a car in a number of years so there was a lot to learn. I wanted to take as long as necessary to understand the new computerized features and get them set up. Most significantly, she did not give me the option to have a license plate installed on the front of my car. My car had originally been sold in Michigan where front plates are not required and since it is electric, they didn't have the plates at the dealership. I left with a temporary plate on the back. When I got two plates from the state and discovered that it is illegal to drive a car in Illinois without a front license plate, I was understandably upset. If she had simply acknowledged the error, I would have understood. Instead, the saleswoman’s excuse for not installing one was that people have gotten upset when Phillips drilled a bracket into their front bumper. Fine. That’s not me. I don’t want to give the cops any reason to pull me over. Rather than admit the mistake, she implied that I was the one out of the norm. She could have at least given me the choice: vanity or legality. Instead, the #1 selling Chevy dealer in Illinois sends customers off to violate Illinois law. I drove back to the dealership -- over an hour's drive for me--for them to install a bracket on the front bumper. While at the dealer, I spoke with a manager and he told me that he doesn’t have a front license on his car, (which he name-dropped was a BMW: apparently Chevys are good enough for him to sell (and for me to buy) but not good enough for him to drive?) I was not interested in participating in the cool car culture. Again, I was out of the norm for wanting to follow the law. I did manage to get financial compensation for the lack of a front license plate bracket, but not an acknowledgement of a bad policy and a commitment to change. I showed the manager (as I had showed another manager) the texts that Rami had sent me. Both managers agreed that the texts were not appropriate for a salesperson to send a potential customer. I asked for an apology from Rami, which the manager agreed I was due but which, unsurprisingly, I never received. Thus, I am writing this review. I do not write negative public reviews without first trying to make things right with the people involved. If rather than being hounded to write a Google and dealer rater review, I had been asked, "How did we do? How might we improve?," I would have been given the forum to discuss these matters, we would have resolved them, and I would happily write a positive review for a dealer with a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I do not recommend Phillips Chevrolet. More
