Stokes Offered Me $13K, Then Their GM Contacted Stokes Kia About My CR-V
My experience with Stokes Honda North completely destroyed my confidence in this dealership.
My 2022 Honda CR-V suffered a catastrophic turbocharger failure at approximately 53,890 miles, while still within Honda’s 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Stokes diagnosed the failed turbocharger, found metal contamination, and recommended complete engine replacement.
After the warranty dispute, I tried to move on and trade the vehicle. Stokes Honda North offered me only $13,000 as a trade-in allowance.
Then came the part that really bothered me.
I was informed that Stokes Honda North GM Joe Dettrey personally contacted Stokes Kia regarding my CR-V and characterized the vehicle as essentially “scrap.”
Think about that.
Stokes Honda diagnosed the catastrophic failure of my relatively new CR-V before 54,000 miles. They then offered me $13,000 for it, and when I attempted to trade it elsewhere, I was told their GM personally contacted the other dealership regarding my vehicle.
As a customer, I felt like the dealership that should have been helping me through a catastrophic warranty dispute was instead undermining the value of my vehicle while I was simply trying to move forward.
American Honda ultimately made the warranty-coverage decision, but Stokes Honda North was the dealership dealing directly with me. The way this situation was handled permanently ended my relationship with them.
Stokes Honda North lost my business, and Honda lost a longtime customer.
My advice to anyone considering purchasing here: don’t judge a dealership by how they treat you while they’re trying to sell you a car. Judge them by how they treat you when something expensive goes catastrophically wrong afterward.
