Sunshine Toyota responded

Thank you for your note and update regarding your experience with Sunshine Toyota. We're very sorry to hear your experience was not an excellent one. This is not the typical practice of Sunshine Toyota as we DO care about you and every customer we have an opportunity work with and sell a vehicle. We realize we should have communicated better with you regarding the paperwork and been more attentive to the complexity of your deal. It was a very complicated deal given the multiple vehicle agencies (Sunshine Toyota and Freedom Motors) involved, financing, out of state sales taxes, along with the mobility conversion portion of the sale. Unfortunately we did not make this an excellent experience for you. We will use this note to learn how to improve these experiences in the future. Is there anything that needs to be completed moving forward so you are able to enjoy your new Sienna? Please let me know and we will get back with you immediately. Thank you again for your review. Sincerely, Gary Minneman Jr. General Manager

Gary, thank you for your response. I wish you had been involved sooned. I graduated from Univeristy of Michigan Business School and know a lot of people that still live in Michigan (many live in Battle Creek). After all the headaches, the back-and-forth, the delays, I have advised them not to purchase from Sunshine Toyota. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am with how your dealership interacted with me. They wanted me to return the Certificate of Origin in a regular stamped envelope. We returned it overnight with Saturday delivery and paid out of pocket, which was ridiculous. I asked Matt if there was anything he could do or add-ons he could send us for the additional stress and work, and he said no. I cannot explain how upset and frustrated I was working with Sunshine Toyota. I relayed this to Frank and Kevin at Freedom Motors to take into consideration for future dealings with Sunshine.

Marcy, Thank you for your response. Please let me know what costs you incurred and I will be happy to reimburse you for all the additional expense involved in sending the paperwork back to us. I too am a graduate from U of M. I hope that I can leave you with a better taste of doing business with Sunshine Toyota. We have a good relationship with Freedom Motors, but sometimes these deals get complicated due to the paperwork being done via mail and phone, and sometimes we do not get all the information we need from Freedom Motors. I apologize for this and I hope you can understand that Sunshine Toyota does not normally operate in this manner. I am very sorry that this has happened to you, and I will work with my staff to eliminate these errors from any future dealings. Please let me know the amount of your expenses and I will get you reimbursed for those and I will also be sending you something additional for your trouble. Sincerely, Gary Minneman

Gary, thank you for your reply and taking the time to address my message in detail. I know we drove 20 minutes each way to the Federal Express location to personally drop off the initial paperwork at a Federal Express Kinko location, but I am pretty sure this was paid by Sunshine. The COO was returned via USPS which is what cost around $18. I believe this was the only expense we incurred. I hope you do not have the same family situation as we do. My son was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 at 5 months of age. SMA is incurable and terminal. The averae life expectancy is 2 years of age. On that day in March 2009, life forever changed for us. The concept of stress took on a whole new meaning. I try to not get too upset or stressed about things, as I want to spend as much time with my 2 sons and make them happy and special times. Ray is 3 1/2 and we are thrilled he is doing well. We remain hopeful that a treatment or cure will be found soon. Buying the conversion van was a big step for us - it was exciting and nerve wracking; we needed the space for Ray and his wheelchair, but we never spent $50,000 on a vehicle - especially not with only one income. I wish the process had been smoother and less stressful. I went over the numbers with Matt on a Saturday. He still called on Tuesday night to again discuss the numbers. After our conversation on Saturday, the papers should have been redone and I should not have needed to discuss numbers two and three times. When I returned the paperwork, it was going back to someone other than Trey or Matt. I checked online several times to make sure it was delivered and called Matt to confirm receipt; it took over a day for him to acknowledge receipt. Furthermore, I am a very thorough person and I know the COO was not in our original paperwork but Matt insisted it was. It was not until after a week after the paperwork was received that the COO was even discussed. If I had forgotten it, why did it take over a week for someone to discover this? Matt insisted that Freedom Motors owed Sunshine for the entire van and this too delayed us getting the van for several days. Gary, I could go on about the stress and extra work that went on between us and Sunshine, but it is over and I am so relieved it is. I just wanted you to know our side of this, so you know I am not being unreasonable. Regards, Marcy

Marcy, I sent you a check today to cover the expenses you incurred with mailing the paperwork. And thank you again for letting me know about your situation and I hope that all goes smoothly from here with your new van. I hope that it helps your family to be able to enjoy the time you have together. I apologize for all of this and I am very sorry for all the extra stress caused from this. Thanks for your understanding, Gary Minneman
