I was at your dealership today looking to purchase a car in cash, Unfortunately your sales men Tyler Ross, and Bryan Berquist stopped me from doing this. First off Bryan was a very nice guy, I got to test d in cash, Unfortunately your sales men Tyler Ross, and Bryan Berquist stopped me from doing this. First off Bryan was a very nice guy, I got to test drive the car and it made a lot of sense for me to buy, when it came to talking numbers Bryan started to get very unprofessional by not really knowing that much. Then it turned out a car that I was looking for was at another dealership, which I was fine with. So after a while of negotiating a price and a trade in value, we were all set to buy the car. Then Tyler Ross sat down and said that he could not do it no matter what, and he wanted to raise the price 3000$ more than we had previously made. Now this was a little over my budget, so I said that I can't do that, He responded that he had the #1 dealership in California and that he makes his prices. Now I this got me a little angry, because in business you can't go anywhere with this "mr.hotshot" attitude that he has, then he became increasingly rude and began to stand to initiate that our time here was done, and by the time he was standing he made so many rude and belittling comments to me that it actually began to threaten me. Then as a simple question I asked at what dealership this subaru that we were looking at was located and he answered in a yelling manner "NO" then he stormed off to his little podium as we walked out the door. It was completely uncalled for and unprofessional behavior More
I was looking to buy a Mustang GT and saw a slightly used car at Shaver over the internet. I called and made an appointment to see the car with John. He was very nice, not at all pushy. He let me drive the c car at Shaver over the internet. I called and made an appointment to see the car with John. He was very nice, not at all pushy. He let me drive the car and was very low key. When I left he did ask me if there was anything he could do to get me to buy the car today. I had another to leave but I made an appointment to come back the next day. It was pretty clear that Shaver - like most dealers- uses a sales system. John was a young guy and i expected that I would be turned over to a more experienced sales guy when i returned. Sure enough, the next day when i went back John was with some other customers and I got to work with Patrick. I went on another test drive and decided I wanted the car. Then i got to hash out the deal with Patrick who was older and obviously more experienced. Most sales systems rely on an information gradient where the salesman has most of the information and the buyer has less. When buying a car I try and reverse this as much as possible. I came in with a pre-approved loan, a car calculator on my smartphone (the calculator from Edmunds is great), and a few comparable car prices from other dealerships. I knew exactly how much I was willing to pay and how much I wanted for my trade in. At this point it is essentially a matter of sticking to your guns as the salesman (and system) will try to pry every last dollar out of you they can. At Shaver I settled down for the hour or so of psychological games and stuck to my guns. In the end I got exactly the deal I wanted and drove off with a great car at an excellent price. I would recommend Shaver with the caveat that you should be prepared before you go in. Everyone there was very nice and they didn't do anything downright sleazy (only a $250 fee for optional 2 day return of the car if you didn't like it - this was put into the contract and never mentioned - I had them take it out). Bryan was extremely knowledgable about the vehicle. We have bought 2 Legacies within 10 months from Shaver. Admittedly the car sells itself, but it's not a very conspicuously marketed vehicle, in my opin have bought 2 Legacies within 10 months from Shaver. Admittedly the car sells itself, but it's not a very conspicuously marketed vehicle, in my opinion, as opposed to other Subaru models like the Outback or the Impreza, so a good dealer presentation is essential for a sale. Bryan was great at that- I went in to look at an Impreza; he quietly steered me to a Legacy, so successfully that now we have 2 of them. The dealership overall was friendly and low-key; we never felt pressured in any way, and the quality of the product they sell is outstanding. More

Not going to lie, I've had some issues a few years ago looking at some cars at this dealership when it was just Jeep. I went there this time looking at a Subaru and did it through their internet salesmen looking at some cars at this dealership when it was just Jeep. I went there this time looking at a Subaru and did it through their internet salesmen and had a very different experience. I dealt with two different internet salesmen (because it was over two different days) and both were very helpful. I ended up seeing Michael Pieper and he was pretty easy to work with. They gave me a decent price, not much above invoice. There was the obvious usual back and forth with any car dealership, but in the end they worked with me and I believe ended well. Their finance guy John McCann was also very helpful, he even called me back a week later and said he was able to get me a LOWER interest rate, which was a big help. I've never heard of that before, but it was a major help in my book. More
Mark Anderson held my car hostage and overcharged me basically on everything. I have a 2008 Subaru with 25,000 miles and he recommended I have over $2,000 in service repairs. I will never return to Sh basically on everything. I have a 2008 Subaru with 25,000 miles and he recommended I have over $2,000 in service repairs. I will never return to Shaver Automotive Group in Thousand Oaks, watch out everyone......this is a huge rip-off!! More
Untrustworthy. I sent my son there for the standard Untrustworthy. I sent my son there for the standard 30K service. Shaver, like Barber and Sherman Oaks which are 30 miles north and south respectiv Untrustworthy. I sent my son there for the standard 30K service. Shaver, like Barber and Sherman Oaks which are 30 miles north and south respectively, quoted him $500. We came to discover that of the 3, only Shaver doesn't include parts. The other 2 prices were complete. This brought the total to $752. Just to give you the flavor, all 3 charge extra for the cabin air filter if you need it. Of the 3, only Shaver tacks on an additional labor charge of $60. The other 2 include as part of the 30K. This added another $99.90. The bill exceeded double because my kid agreed to a Shaver recommended fuel system cleaning service ($150) which Subaru NEVER does as part of the regular maintenance schedule over the life of the car. Subaru said they can't control what independent dealers recommend. This last thing is as contemptible as it is unnecessary. They've been a Subaru dealer for maybe one year. What experience can they be basing this recommendation on? We complained but my son had signed the estimate and they held him to it. They relented by giving him 10% off and they decided to honor their direct-mail coupon for the cabin filter though he hadn't presented it at write-up time. Oh yeah, despite numerous phone calls regarding the status of the car, they never let him know it was ready. We went there and tried to pay the cashier and get the car but the service department was closed and didn't present a bill. Since the car's status was unknown, the (assistant?) sales manager had to give my son a loaner so he could return to his home in the city. He returned the next day to deal with the above and get his car back. Btw, the sales manager was very nice and sympathetic but she did not think there were performance differences between 2007 and 2008 STi model years. Maybe the service department got the additional service recommendations from her. More
Sales Manager Andrew was extremely unprofessional and gave false information about invoice pricing. Horrible experience, sub-par customer service, questionable business practices, no selection, high pressure sales practices, dishonest people. Purchased a subaru from them and it has been the wor questionable business practices, no selection, high pressure sales practices, dishonest people. Purchased a subaru from them and it has been the worst experience I have had, and this isn't my first subaru. They just want to make a sale and will do anything to sell you, regardless of the consequences. I recommend staying away from these guys and going elsewhere, you will save money, have a bigger selection and avoid a lot of headache. More
