Worse car buying experience in 30 years First and last time customer. They claim used vehicles go through a 32 point inspection the truck I bought had a horrible noise in front end at test drive they said they would fix found out cupped tire said just drive it since tire had god tread, I insisted the replace tire which they did with a mismatched tire with totally different tread pattern and still the noise. How do you do 32 point inspection and not look at tires or hear the noise ? More

I found that Phil was an honest man and quite knowledgeable in the auto business. I have nothing but good experiences with Phil. When I am ready for my next car I will be looking for him. One other note I was so satisfied with Phil that I sent a daughter, 2 grandsons and a brother to him and they all purchased vehicles, and they too are quite satisfied with there experiences with Phil. Mike actually listened to me! Started looking for a used, proper SUV, with actual Utility, in September. I truly think I visited all the dealership companies in FW, though not every lot. Hit several “corner” lots, too, if you know what I mean. Spoke with Mike at O’daniel, told him my budget and what I needed in towing capacity, and asked him not to blow up my phone with vehicles that didn’t meet my criteria. In the months since speaking with Mike, I expanded my search into Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois. Even drove to Cincinnati to drive an SUV. What a waste of time... told the salesman I had two deal-breakers: rust and torn seats. Oh, it’s beautiful, he told me. Opened the door and saw two tears on the passenger seat headrest. Can we show you something else? We have pickups in your price range! That’s indicative of my car shopping experience over the past few months. That, and repeated calls for me to look at Family Trucksters with no towing capacity. But, not Mike. Not O’Daniel in New Haven. Mike respected me enough not to call me. Even when he had the Expedition I ended up purchasing, on his lot. Let me explain. I was looking online, and found something interesting in Ohio. I went to an auto website to research it, and an ad for O’Daniel popped up with the Expedition I eventually bought from Mike. It was beyond my budget, but it was sooo beautiful. When I stopped to look at it, he explained he hadn’t phoned me about it because I had been clear about what I wanted to spend. I really appreciated that. Even though it was well beyond what I wanted to spend, and he knew I probably wouldn’t buy it, he let me drive it so I could familiarize myself with the Ford Expedition. Well, by now, you know how that turned out. We came to an agreement within a week, and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. It’s been over a month now, and I’m still happy. I met Mr. O’Daniel one day at the dealership, and he seemed like a good guy. Had a long conversation with him, and never felt like he was trying to “sell” me. In fact, we hardly talked about my purchase. We just talked. There are two kinds of car salesmen out there. The first is the type we joke and complain about — the people who want to sqeeze as much out of you as they can get, and anything on their lot that catches your eye is “perfect for you.” The other type is the person who takes joy in bucking that stereotype, and matching customers with the vehicle that’s right for them. Mike’s that second type of salesman. He was going to let me walk away instead of showing me another Expedition on his lot that, while in the budget I gave him, wasn’t really what I was looking for. Oh, it was pretty, too, but a little older and higher miles than I wanted. Not as well equipped, either. He was willing to let me walk away. Again. No pressure, no “better act now” mess. (I actually had a sales manager at an un-named car store try to talk me into a rusty Armada because he said I wouldn’t find what I was looking for, and “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” Yeah, he actually said that.) Of course, as they say, “your mileage may vary.” Caveat emptor. Close cover before striking. But, I spent considerable time on this review for a reason. I believe in spreading the word about people who seem to be doing business right. This is the second biggest purchase I’ve ever made, after my house. And, honestly, buying my Expedition from Mike was way more enjoyable. Oh, and don’t automatically veto the warranty when they offer it — I essentially have a new car warranty on my four year-old Expedition! More
