I first met McGee Toyota in July of 2020 when I purchased a 2017 Toyota from them. My experience at that time was quite satisfactory and I was very happy with the interactions I had with them AND the car. a 2017 Toyota from them. I also own a 2009 Toyota so when I received notification it had an airbag recall, I naturally thought of McGee Toyota. 4 days later, I brought the 2009 in for the airbag recall and added on a tune-up. The Service Department called me and in addition to the tune-up I had requested, recommended the transmission be flushed to which I agreed. The next day, I picked up the car. 6 days later, the car that I had just spent $1000 for maintenance work broke down on Route 95 on the bridge between Maine and New Hampshire. I was not happy to say the least. We had it towed to a local garage and the mechanic told us the transmission was “blown”. When I told this man about the work that was done a week ago, he said, “they didn’t do you any favors flushing the transmission”. When I got back to Massachusetts, I called the service department at McGee and let them know what happened. I spoke with Brian Davidson, service director, who refused to acknowledge they may have played a part in the breakdown of my car. He made me feel like I did something wrong by not having the car towed to a Toyota dealer. He wanted me to bring the car to McGee Toyota of Epping, New Hampshire. I felt belittled and dismissed as he spoke to me in rude and sarcastic tones, and essentially I felt bullied as I hung up. This was not the same level of customer service I had experienced just the previous month during the purchase of a different car. I spent the next 3 weeks making numerous phone calls to McGee Toyota of Hanover and Epping, and finally got an agreement from them they would replace the transmission. While I did get a new transmission and was ultimately “made whole”, the process was so painful and time consuming. The customer service exhibited by these two dealerships did not live up to the message you hear on the phone when put on hold. “We’ll do whatever it takes to take care of any challenge. You’re part of the family”. If this is family, I am running in the opposite direction. More
