This is an update on my initial review. I was working with Marietta Auto Sales on a solution. They found the spare key that the salesman, Anthony Brooks lied about putting in my car before delivery. To the credit of Sederick Moseley, his manager, he called to apologize and send the spare key to me. They also agreed to pay $500 to help cover the cost of new tires since new tires had to be purchased to pass my VA inspection, which I think is fair, and it shows that Sederick took the initiative to address my concerns. I want to note that upon inspection, the vehicle still failed with the new tires because the rear brake pads and sensors needed to be replaced. I had to pay for the new rear brake pads and sensors to pass inspection. They knowingly sold the vehicle with bad rear brake pads and sensors. I mostly blame Anthony Brooks, the salesman, for lying about the condition of the car. However, the vehicle was sold “as is”, so it is a risk when buying from these types of used car dealerships. When I went to my DMV on Friday, 2/16/18, to get my registration and plates for my car, I was told that I owe $69.77 to cover my plates, title, registration, and taxes. The DMV clerk told me that the cost was $10 for the title, $40.75 for registration and plates, and $983.39 for taxes; to leave a total of $1,034.14. Marietta Auto Sales sent a check to the DMV for $964.37. This not only didn’t cover my title and registration, but it didn’t even cover all of the taxes. The financial contract that I signed with Marietta Auto sales includes $983.38 for taxes and $107 for title and registration fees, for a total of $1,083.39. I paid Marietta Auto Sales more than enough to cover these expenses, but they sent a check to the DMV for $964.37, which didn’t even cover the taxes on the car. When I discussed this with Sederick Moseley, he agreed to send another check to make up the difference for the taxes, but he wouldn’t do anything about the title and registration fees. I was told these would be covered, and I didn’t like how the title fees on the bill was misrepresented and didn’t cover the title and registration fees at the DMV. However, due to the fact that they sent refund checks for the tires and taxes, I think the transaction is fair overall now. In summary, to the credit of Sederick and the management team, they did get in contact with me to address most of my concerns and make the transaction more palatable. I should also note that I bought this car out of state, so the transaction was naturally riskier and more difficult as a result. I don’t think I would have had as many issues if I bought the car in person. However, I believe the salesman, Anthony Brooks, is mostly to blame for lying about giving me the spare key, lying about the condition of the tires, lying about how title and registration fees are paid, and even lying about washing the car before delivery. It was a long process, but management did attempt to make things right. I give them credit for taking the initiative to address my concerns. Overall, I consider this transaction fair now. The car runs pretty well. There is a brake squeal noise, but I believe that is a BMW issue that I can hopefully fix.
