We recently had a routine maintenance visit to Keeler Mercedes in Latham NY. The service was performed well and the technician was polite and efficient However we requested a loaner and were told that Mercedes in Latham NY. The service was performed well and the technician was polite and efficient However we requested a loaner and were told that we qualified for one based on the service request and we live over a half hr away so to drive home and do a few errands before returning the following day was a given. We were never told of the draconian terms for the loaner assuming that as in the past it was a courtesy. And by the way over the course of the last 27 years of owning 7 or 8 Mercedes we were never charged for a loaner. So they now charge for gas usage at $6/gal which isn’t entirely unreasonable even though premium gas is less than that price locally. But here’s what was in the contract that we were never informed about ahead of time. If you smoke or have a pet in the car (we don’t and didn’t) it’s $350 for each of those offenses. We drove the car 95 miles total over about 24 hrs over 50 of which was just to get home and back. We were fortunate because what they didn’t tell you is that FOR EVERY MILE OVER 100/day YOU ARE CHARGED $100/mi. So if we had by chance driven the car 110 mi we would have been charged $1000 for the privilege. Can you imagine what our surprise would been had we driven it 150 miles! Meanwhile a rental under normal circumstances would have been well south of $100. And on top of all of these uninformed terms they charge a 3% premium for using a credit card for the entire service. We will seriously consider going elsewhere for our Mercedes and BMW purchases going forward. Be forewarned! More
