The old car sale game all the way around I recently made an appointment to test drive a Kia Sportage. I made it clear before coming in that I was beginning to look at SUVs and had several in I recently made an appointment to test drive a Kia Sportage. I was contacted no fewer than 8 times before my appointment so I felt they were a little "pushy" but I still decided to go test drive. The sales person (Darrell) was very nice and showed me a car he had selected and while I liked it the numbers had to work. He and I did the test drive and we sat down to chat. I did like the care but it sat a little lower to the ground then I wanted. Once Darrell and I spoke, he left the cubicle and came back with Matt who started to talk numbers. His numbers were so out of range and budget and just didn't make any sense given the price of the car. He also 'lowballed' my trade. I don't think he realized I could read all the numbers on his worksheet. The lowball trade offer (I got a better offer from Carvana) and inflated interest rate were insulting and I decided to walk away. While I was on my way out the door, I was offered $10000 off the purchase price. I really despise when anyone plays this type of game. Give me your best price up front, don't play games and be honest... While Darrell was great to work with, Matt blew the deal.
