The visit today was the final one, the arrogance and rudeness is too much. I had several visits here, from great to terrible. My service experience with Chambers' service dept had been excellent and de rudeness is too much. I had several visits here, from great to terrible. My service experience with Chambers' service dept had been excellent and deteriorated to the point that I won't go back. When I first went there, it was an urgent small fix that a very decent service rep took care of right in the driveway, he didn't even enter the car into their database. The next time, the tech test drove and agreed with me and fixed an expensive item. The next time, they made stuff up about how another problem was not actually a problem and it was normal. BS. They adjusted the parking brake, then on the way home the car started jittering and banging and I had to stop. I drove home slowly, no other problems. I jacked up the car and tried to spin the rear wheels and guess what, they were binding with the parking brake! So much for quality work. The mechanic could have at least spun the wheel to check it but no. Another independent mechanic drove it and said a part was really messed up on the suspension, and showed me. Jim et al said they couldn't see it, the tech was lazy acting and unconcerned, and they were very rude about how any tech other than their own could diagnose a fault. I was reminded how this mechanic is an "expert BMW service technician"... the guy who did the parking brake? Then, telling me "it's normal for that model of car", then "well I don't see anything wrong"; well which is it, normal or non-existant? As long as you leave, that's all that they want. Condescending, challenging the customer, constantly reminding me how much they did for me and how much time they spend, I feel guilty for bothering them. Forget that place. The worst thing you can do is tell a customer he's wasting your time. In summary, Chambers is good for scheduled services like oil changes, avoid them if you have a problem. More
THIS DEALERSHIP IS GREAT. GOOD PEOPLE, NICE LOCATION ON COMMONWEALTH AVE, REASONABLE PRICING FOR DOWNTOWN BOSTON. EVERYTIME I HAVE BROUGHT MY X5 IN (I BOUGHT IT THERE AND HAVE HAD IT SERVICED THERE SINCE COMMONWEALTH AVE, REASONABLE PRICING FOR DOWNTOWN BOSTON. EVERYTIME I HAVE BROUGHT MY X5 IN (I BOUGHT IT THERE AND HAVE HAD IT SERVICED THERE SINCE NEW) IT HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE. ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ON THIS SITE ARE FROM WHINERS. More
the service is OK, and i continue to take my 325i there because it's convenient and I trust them a little bit more than most other mechanics. but i would never buy a car from any of the herb chambers deal because it's convenient and I trust them a little bit more than most other mechanics. but i would never buy a car from any of the herb chambers dealers. i looked into getting another bmw a couple of years back and the service was awful. the salesman was condescending and the trade-in offer was an insult. everything about the experience was unpleasant. i recently went into their toyata dealer, thinking i might get a hybrid. the salesman there was worse, if that is possible. he didn't want to give us a car to test drive, and then didn't go with us when he finally got around to getting a car for us. then, the calls kept coming from one creepy representative after another trying to get us to come back. never again. I purchased a 330xi from another dealer in another state, unfortunately, it has some electrical quirks. I always take in for servicing to Chris at Herb Chambers, he consistantly takes excellent care of me. unfortunately, it has some electrical quirks. I always take in for servicing to Chris at Herb Chambers, he consistantly takes excellent care of me. I had a failed engine thermometer last week, and my wood shifter had a crack in it to no fault of mine. The thermometer was fixed in excellent time, and they replaced my shifter w/out any issue. Every time I have an issue (probly twice a year), I call and schedule for Chris. Jim took care of me a couple times when Chris was away, and he did an excellent job as well. I do know the prices at this dealership are a little higher though due to their conveniant location, and probly due to taxes in the city as well at their location which are passed on to customers. Either way, still an excellent service experience. More
Not a single returned call. I was in the shop 4 times in as many weeks. Mike and Jimmy both have a condescending manner. You're a service representative and yet you have no service skills? Really? They also as many weeks. Mike and Jimmy both have a condescending manner. You're a service representative and yet you have no service skills? Really? They also trash talked other BMW dealerships, usually a sign of incompetence. They proved that with their actions, as the service department twice fixed one problem only to create another one. More
What a nightmare -- talk about arrogant. They make you feel like you are the lucky one to have them talking to you... and to top it all off, they don't really listen to what you want -- rather, they just feel like you are the lucky one to have them talking to you... and to top it all off, they don't really listen to what you want -- rather, they just push on you what they want to sell. Went to Norwood BMW and had a completely different experience -- bought my brand new X5 same day from there... so make the trip to Norwood if you really want a BMW. (I live in Beacon Hill, so I would have preferred the convenience of Herb -- but never again) More
I bought my 2007 BMW 530xi into Herb Chambers BMW for a scheduled appointment for dealing with some issues regarding electronics and ventilation. Service Advisor Jim Miscioscia took me in hand, got the car scheduled appointment for dealing with some issues regarding electronics and ventilation. Service Advisor Jim Miscioscia took me in hand, got the car into the system, knew what the problems were, and arranged for a loaner (2007 BMW 328xi). When parts were late in arriving, Jim called me, said to keep the loaner another day. Called again the next day, said parts were being installed and asked me to come by an get the car. Reverse transition was just as painless...drop the loaner, chat with GM Melissa Steffy, and take away the 530xi, now updated, blowing air in the right way, and clean. Everything was great, and all the other customers I saw picking up cars seemed as happy as I was. More
I walked into the dealership, wanting to test drive the new 330i (a few years ago). After waiting for what seemed like 1/2 an hour to get a sales guy, the sales guy told me that he only had 330xi's. I to new 330i (a few years ago). After waiting for what seemed like 1/2 an hour to get a sales guy, the sales guy told me that he only had 330xi's. I told him that I didnt want all wheel drive, and that I wanted to test a 330i. He told me that "no one buys 330i" anymore. I told him "not from you anyway", and I walked away. FYI... I purchased a 330i from Foreign Motors West, with whom I am very satisfied. More
My experience with Herb Chambers is from 2000 through 2004. I ordered a 530 there and the sales experience was low pressure and pleasant. My car was serviced there while the free maintainance was avail 2004. I ordered a 530 there and the sales experience was low pressure and pleasant. My car was serviced there while the free maintainance was available, and the car was always properly fixed, the service mgr went out of his way to explain what was needed and why and they even stayed 45 minutes late on a Friday as I was running late to pick up the car. The 2 drawbacks for Herb Chambers BMW is their location is hard for me to get to, and their rates are somewhat higher than my trusty independent mechanic 10 minutes away. My experience with Herb Chambers has not been remotely like the negative comments posted here. More
This is a six-months-after-the-sale report regarding my sales experience, and my first service contact. We took delivery about 10/1/2006 of a BMW 530xi. Price was right, trade $$ were good, and the sales & sales experience, and my first service contact. We took delivery about 10/1/2006 of a BMW 530xi. Price was right, trade $$ were good, and the sales & delivery experiences were exemplary: 1) treated with respect, 2) pressure non-existent, 3) none of the expected pressure from the financial guy, and 4) Jason Canulla provided the most complete new-car explanation I've ever had. First few days were great. I discovered that the Navigation system was not equipped with the expected traffic reports, but Herb Chambers GM Melissa Steffy has gone to work on that issue, and I'm expecting a positive outcome there. Car has had no issues, and after buying ten new cars from 1967-2007 this BMW was the first which had no driveability/preparation/mechanical issues from the outset. I stopped by for my first-in-six-months service contact today to try and resolve electronic problems. Jason introduced me to Asst. Service Mgr. Chris Anslono who immediately set me up with an appointment for the work with a loaner car in a couple of weeks. I know Herb Chambers in general has gotten a reputation for shoddy practices, esp. here at DealerRater, but this BMW Center has shown me nothing but good stuff. I'll report back regarding the service experience after it has happened. More
