I brought my 2024 VW Atlas into the service center for a routine oil change and a warning light inspection. During the visit, I was sent a quote recommending that I replace all four tires. The inspection re routine oil change and a warning light inspection. During the visit, I was sent a quote recommending that I replace all four tires. The inspection report listed my tread depths as 5/32” and 4/32”, suggesting they were near the end of their life. The problem? One of those tires had just been replaced in April and measured 9/32”. The service department didn’t know that. When I questioned the recommendation, I received several explanations for why the measurements might have been wrong. Eventually, they remeasured the tires and found that the original inspection was inaccurate. They also discovered the tires had different inflation pressures, and the new measurements didn’t match what the technician had documented. Based on how this unfolded, I have a hard time believing the original recommendation was made in good faith. It certainly feels like I was being sold four tires that I didn’t actually need. I’m really disappointed with my experience at Grand Junction Volkswagen. If you’re having your vehicle serviced there, I’d recommend asking questions and verifying any major repair recommendations before approving the work. More
