My trade-in is a 2022 Nissan Kicks with front-end damage — a condition I know perfectly well, because I had it professionally appraised: $3,000 in writing from CarMax, with the damage and wheel bearing documented on the report. So I came in as a real buyer with real negative equity, and I asked one reasonable question: what number do we need to make this deal work? Here's what I got from my sales rep, Bob: • He pointed out the front-end damage on my car and told me it "is on its last legs" — as if I didn't already know exactly what my car looks like. • He said I'd need "more down payment" — but when I directly asked what specific number would make the deal work, he refused to give me any figure. No number, no range, no path forward. Just a wall. • Nissan currently has meaningful incentives on the 2026 Kicks — customer cash and financing programs that could have substantially offset my negative equity. Bob didn't attempt to apply a single one, or even mention they existed. • After learning my trade situation, I wasn't allowed to test drive the SR or spend any real time with it. The exact car I came in ready to buy. • And it wasn't just him: when the sales manager asked me a question, he literally walked away from me mid-sentence — while I was answering. I had to just stand there. That's not how you treat anyone, let alone someone ready to hand you a check. The irony: Colonial advertises itself as the highest-volume Nissan dealership in Pennsylvania. A standard negative-equity trade-in — something buyers present every day — apparently wasn't worth their effort. That same week, Faulkner Nissan of Jenkintown took the same trade, the same negative equity, the same down payment — and made the numbers work with no problem. The deal was absolutely doable all along. Colonial just didn't want to do the work. If you're shopping there with a trade-in, be warned: this store will judge your situation before it ever serves you. More
