I wrote them an email on Friday and they never responded so here is our review: We had the worst car buying experience ever with Steven...We came to look at the '14 Highlander. Before we could even test so here is our review: We had the worst car buying experience ever with Steven...We came to look at the '14 Highlander. Before we could even test drive it, there were red flags. He tried to lie about how long it had been on the lot, he said there were no other vehicles we'd be interested in looking at (even though we checked the website later and there were at least 3), he tried to dismiss a missing cover as a Toyota thing, saying the price was only recently decreased because the market was decreasing (not because it's been on the lot for over a month)... We took it to Pete Smith for a pre-purchase inspection. We noticed one tire was pretty worn and that the rotors were rusted but we wanted to make sure the car was okay because we’ve been burned in the past. They told us that the back rotors and pads are really bad and need to be replaced almost immediately, and the front rotors and pads are also pretty worn. We heard and felt the grinding just backing out. They also noted that one tire is different and that we’ll likely need to replace the tires at next rotation in 10,000 miles. When we got back, we explained the issues. He immediately discredited them because "his mechanics said they were fine and passed their inspection". He went and got their measurements and came back and showed us. We again explained it doesn’t matter to us what the measurements are from his mechanics - we had an uninterested third party not trying to sell us a car tell us they need to be replaced and we could feel it and hear it when we were driving. He then claimed he just took it for a spin around the dealership and he could barely hear it at the end and stated that it was probably because the car hadn’t been driven in awhile and so its just a film wearing off. Additionally, he stated, “I trust my $40/hr mechanic over a $10/hr mechanic,” which is the most ridiculous comment ever. After briefly mentioning the issues, he disappeared and said he had to do a favor for a customer. 30 minutes later, he is still gone and never even came to find us or update us with a time, and we are stuck trying to entertain our toddler who is getting more upset by the minute. I’m not sure what was so important, but when you have someone trying to purchase something from you, it’s not helpful to just disappear for 30 minutes because our business wasn’t important enough to be taken care of in that moment. We almost just left at that point. When he finally came back, we tried to start negotiating at 20,000, hoping to get some movement to 21,500 after realizing the work we’d have to do to it. Steven initially wouldn’t budge at all, so my husband then asked him to ask his sales manager what the lowest possible price is that he would do. Steven came back and told my husband $500 off and that was it. My husband then told him we are leaving. He had the audacity to say, “Well if it was me, I’d drive on the brakes it has.” My husband reminded him that it’s not him driving the vehicle and that it’s his pregnant wife with his daughter who’s safety is at risk, not his, and it needs to be fixed. As my husband was headed for the door, the man who we believe is the sales manager came over and asked what had to be done to come to an agreement and stated, “We’re only a few hundred dollars away from each other.” My husband looked at him very confused, and then he said, “Your max is 23 and some change, right?” My husband said, “No, we told Steven our max is 22,000.” This was the final straw for us. At that moment, it was evident that Steven didn’t communicate any of what we had actually discussed with his manager, and instead lied about our intentions and what we said. I’m not sure if he was doing this so he could get a bigger commission or what, but never in my life have I seen a car salesman lie about a customers needs to a sales manager just to try and sell at a higher price. AVOID STEVEN AT ALL COSTS!!!!! More
