My recent service experience with Audi Devon is a perfect example of why so many people distrust dealership service centers. TLTR: Audi Devon tried to charge me $1000 for a part that is covered under the example of why so many people distrust dealership service centers. TLTR: Audi Devon tried to charge me $1000 for a part that is covered under the federal efficiency warranty. Long story short, check engine light came on. Issue was diagnosed as a malfunctioning Active Shutter Grill Guard. Quoted $1K to replace the part (inc the diagnostic charge). After less than 2 minutes searching on the web, turns out this part is covered under the Federal Efficiency Warranty. Once I pointed this out to the SA, after considerable push back, he conceded that this was to be replaced at no cost. Now that this repair was on Audi’s dime, the part, as if by magic, was not faulty and only needed a software update. Had I not taken the time (2 minutes) to research and point out that this part was under a federally mandated warranty, I would have been out of pocket $1000 for a part that apparently didn’t need replacement. Past, present and future Audi owners BEWARE: If you have had this particular part replaced in the past, or Audi tells you that you need it replaced, it is covered under the Federal Efficiency Warranty (8 years/80K miles). Given Volkswagen/Audi’s history of emissions fraud perpetrated against the world, I’m dumbfounded as to why no one at an Audi service center didn’t know that this part fell under the federal efficiency warranty. I cringe at the number of people who have probably paid for this repair, and if their situation was anything like mine, probably didn’t even have a defective part. To add insult to injury, prior to writing this review I reached out to the SA (who I will not name directly) 3 times to ensure my account of all that transpired was accurate and factual. He has yet to return my call after 3 attempts. This unprofessionalism, plus the argumentative tone struck throughout all my dealings with this particular SA has completely eroded any trust I had with Audi Devon. More
