I found a vehicle online, listed as at their dealership. I sent an online inquiry through the app and did receive a prompt phone all about the vehicle. I informed the individual that I was in Illinois and I sent an online inquiry through the app and did receive a prompt phone all about the vehicle. I informed the individual that I was in Illinois and would come by the next Monday to check it out. I received further confirmation the Friday before that the vehicle was still there, and was given a sale price with the specific language that the price was out the door. I asked if it included sales tax, reread and sent back that I saw it was price out the door, was never corrected, and it was left at that through the weekend. The following Monday I got a text saying that individual was no longer with the dealership but that this new person was reviewing notes left, of which I couldn't say what was covered, but it was clear I am from Illinois. After a 4ish hour drive, I arrived, was greeted promptly, informed by the new individual that they regularly sold vehicles out of state and apparently had a buyer from Texas, if I recall correctly. I was ready to make the sale happen... and then the price came up. I told him what was quoted, that it was given as an out the door price, and was happy with that. The individual left for a moment and came back with someone else who informed that that their "out the door price" didn't include Illinois sales tax. Yes, despite knowing I was from out of state, was driving a significant distance to do business with them, and allegedly doing out of state business regularly, the thought apparently either never occurred to or was never acted on by anyone in this process to verify if the price I was given was an honest price. At least not until I was already there, and the explanation for this by the person who came over second was, "Well this is Missouri, and that's the price out the door for me. " I honestly would have been just fine with the higher price, as verified by me driving to another dealership an hour away with no discernable association with this one, and buying another version of the same vehicle for the higher price, which was made clear to me immediately over the phone when I called to inquire. I can't say if this is this dealerships normal way of operation, since this will certainly be the only time I ever have or will interact with them. I can only say this is what happened to me. More
