Eric Trigg is the best salesman, he couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating and is still very attentive after the sale! Crystal McElroy is the bomb too!! She helped us through the ordering process (we ordered our new Yukon so we could get exactly what we wanted) and couldn't have been more amazing than what she is!! We honestly felt like we knew both Eric and Crystal forever after just meeting them. We feel like we are part of the Suntrup family and couldn't be happier with the experience. Thank you everyone at Suntrup!!! More

Military or first time Missouri car buyers beware My wife and I recently purchased a 2019 GMC Acadia from Suntrup Buick GMC in St Peters, MO. Our previous vehicle had a transmission go out unexpected My wife and I recently purchased a 2019 GMC Acadia from Suntrup Buick GMC in St Peters, MO. Our previous vehicle had a transmission go out unexpectedly, and just before a major relocation out of state, so we needed a replacement vehicle and quick. After several days of visiting dealerships and many hours searching online, we decided to purchase a car from Suntrup, and trusted our salesperson, Wayne Burns to take care of us. He never missed an opportunity to present himself as a fellow veteran in an attempt to build trust and rapport, and we trusted him and the finance specialist, Doug Rhodes, to take care of our family with the details of this major purchase. Due to the unexpected nature of this expense, we had a tight monthly budget and a target price range in mind, and as such, my wife and I reiterated several times that any car purchase decision would be made on the bottom line, particularly the final monthly payment. Having done my homework, I presented Wayne and later Doug with a pre-approval letter from our bank, and Doug said to wait with Wayne and he would take care of the financing. While Doug spent almost 20 minutes trying to upsell us on an extended warranty (including financing options), at no time was sales tax ever discussed, rates shown, or options to finance the tax ever provided. Based on the nature of my military service, we had purchased or sold cars in several different states (VA, AL, TX) and even Japan, and in each instance, sales tax was ALWAYS collected at the point of sale/the dealership. Doug told us he already set everything up with our bank, and all we needed to do was sign the required forms and we would be on our way in our new GMC. We left the office with only 2 forms – a title application and a “sales invoice” which only listed the amount financed and our trade in value. Several days later, I was absolutely shocked at the DMV when they required nearly $2,600 to register the vehicle. They explained that in Missouri, the dealership doesn’t collect the sales tax and it is required to be paid at the DMV. I was completely surprised that the dealership failed to mention this material piece of information, something that now made the vehicle exceed our monthly budget. I immediately attempted to contact Doug in finance to explain why we weren’t offered the option to finance sales tax. He was out of the office, but his counterpart explained that this is the way it is always done in Missouri. Finding that unacceptable that people are routinely accustomed to paying almost 10% of the purchase price in cash at the DMV, I contacted the sales manager. Sales manager Crystal McElroy seemed very surprised by my inquiry, despite having explained to her that Doug talked directly to my bank, and provided the dollar amount to them directly without offering to finance the sales tax. I find it very hard to believe that customers never finance sales tax when dealing with Suntrup, and I still wanted her to explain why Doug never explained local sales tax rates or offered to finance the tax, as had been the norm when buying a car ANYWHERE else. She stated that Doug or Wayne did nothing wrong, and reiterated that this is how business is done in Missouri – further adding that this was the first call she had ever received on the topic. From this, I can only conclude that this dealership either made a mistake in not offering to finance the tax or left out this material information to get us to buy a car we could not afford. In either case, I was at a severe information disadvantage (despite my research) and trusted Suntrup to guide us through the details of buying a car in Missouri. The attitude of the dealership during my four attempts to remedy the situation was that we “should have known better because you signed the deal” and this is how business is done in Missouri. Based on these interactions I am convinced this dealership uses Missouri law in how taxes are collected to their advantage in order to persuade buyers to purchase more expensive vehicles – a tactic that is particularly effective against military or first time Missouri buyers. If they can fool someone with an accounting degree and an MBA who has purchased several vehicles (and does their research), they can fool anyone. This is my first online review, and this is in no way my first attempt to resolve a major issue with my vehicle purchase from Suntrup Buick GMC. As a big believer in dealing with people directly and honestly, I have made multiple attempts to solve this issue at the lowest level possible with the finance department, sales manager Crystal McElroy, and general manager Ken Kline. It is my only hope that others can learn from my mistake during my car buying experience – particularly those military customers who are at a disadvantage due to routine moves and living in different states.
