I had an extremely disappointing experience with Covina Hills Chevrolet while attempting to purchase a 2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone Edition from out of state. Over the course of three to four days, I worked Hills Chevrolet while attempting to purchase a 2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone Edition from out of state. Over the course of three to four days, I worked with Chris, the General Sales Manager, and a sales representative, Luis, trying to get clear pricing. They repeatedly avoided putting anything in writing and were very difficult to reach. Phone calls went unanswered, messages were not returned, and it was clear that in person customers were being prioritized over serious remote buyers. Eventually, we came to a verbal agreement on price over the phone, which led me to book a flight from Texas to California to complete the purchase. Upon arrival, the experience immediately went downhill. I asked to speak with Chris, the General Sales Manager I had been working with directly, and he would not even come out to shake my hand. I was told he was too busy and was redirected to another salesperson. When I questioned this, I was told he was focused on ordering inventory and that it was a higher priority than meeting a customer who had just flown 1500 miles specifically to purchase a vehicle from their dealership. When I inspected the vehicle, I found it in far worse condition than expected for an eight month old car with 10000 miles and a clean Carfax. The paint had noticeable swirl marks, scratches, and blemishes throughout. After scanning the vehicle, it also showed an active fault code for the passenger side airbag system. To make matters worse, the GR86 is a manual transmission vehicle and no one there seemed capable of properly operating it. I watched their wash employee attempt to move the car while clearly struggling, riding and burning the clutch in the process. That alone was extremely concerning. Despite the prior agreement, I was then informed that the price would be increased by 1200 dollars due to market conditions. This was after I had already flown in based on the agreed terms. Even after attempting to move forward, the process was incredibly inefficient. I was the only customer actively purchasing a vehicle, yet it took nearly an hour just for the finance department to begin paperwork on a straightforward cash deal. The most concerning part of the experience was observing how the vehicles are handled. The detailing process involved the use of deck brushes and dirty rags typically used for hard surfaces like concrete. It was clear that this practice was contributing to the widespread paint damage I saw, not just on this car but across the lot. Even brand new C8 Corvettes in the showroom had visible swirl marks and scratches. I did attempt to work with their GM, Johnny, who made an effort to try to save the deal and was the only person who showed any level of professionalism. Unfortunately, by that point the overall experience had already left such a negative impression that it could not be salvaged. In all my years of buying and evaluating vehicles, I have never encountered a dealership with this level of disorganization, lack of transparency, and disregard for vehicle care and customer experience. I truly do not understand how they are selling cars. I ultimately walked away and flew back home extremely disappointed. I would strongly caution anyone, especially out of state buyers, to proceed carefully or consider other dealerships. More
