The people at Southern were great. Their process for completing the sale is absolutely awful, I came in with a trade to buy a 4Runner planning to pay cash for the remainder. Thei Their process for completing the sale is absolutely awful, I came in with a trade to buy a 4Runner planning to pay cash for the remainder. Their process required me to complete the front end of a financing plan, (on my iPhone!),though I was paying cash. They explained it was their method of verifying identity and that there was no other way to buy the car. They also have multiple redundant methods to insulate themselves from the customer so they can mitigate the possibility of a lawsuit. You need to be on the defensive the whole time you’re dealing with them (their processes). It breeds an environment of mistrust. Not a pleasant experience and is very customer abusive. The people are good. The processes driven by corporate level aversion to and mistrust of customers yields a bad experience. At the end of the day, I have the car. It could have been far easier and far more pleasant. I recommend they have their C suite execs go all the way through a buying experience in the shoes of the customer. They’ll see what I mean. They just happened to have the exact car I wanted. Otherwise I would have gone elsewhere. More
