I have been a loyal Volkswagen customer for years, but - Mknlopez
I have been a loyal Volkswagen customer for years, but my experience with Puyallup’s dealership service department has been incredibly disappointing. One of the main reasons we purchased our new vehicle here was the promise of a lifetime free oil change—something they heavily market. However, beware: this offer comes with a catch. You must get all your services done at this dealership, and that would be fine if it weren’t so difficult to get an appointment in a reasonable timeframe.
I called in January to schedule a service appointment, and due to their backlog, the earliest availability wasn’t until March—nearly two months later. My vehicle needed urgent maintenance, so I had no choice but to go to another dealership that could actually get me in. Fast forward to my appointment, I told them since I couldn’t wait for certain things that needed immediate attention I had it a serviced already and that I just needed to get the oil change. I couldn’t wait two months as there was stuff in the red already. But now, I was told that because I had service done elsewhere, I was no longer eligible for the free lifetime oil change. I explained that I had no choice because they couldn’t get me in, but they didn’t care.
This is unacceptable customer service. A dealership should not make it so difficult for loyal customers to schedule maintenance and then penalize them for going elsewhere when they are forced to. If honoring their promises was a priority, they would ensure that customers could actually get timely service.
We will soon be purchasing another new vehicle, and after this experience, we will be taking our business to the Volkswagen Tacoma Dealership instead. They were able to schedule me quickly, and their service department is far more efficient and accommodating.
I would highly recommend getting serviced at Volkswagen Tacoma instead. They were incredibly friendly, transparent, accommodating, and reliable—everything this dealership failed to be.
I usually don’t leave reviews, but I want others in the market for a new car to be aware of this dealership’s “lifetime oil change” promise. You need to get your car serviced there, but be warned it is hard to get appointments in a timely manner which makes it hard to get service done. I hope charging for an oil change was worth losing a lifetime customer.
