After purchasing my 2003 Elantra I was impressed with the sales staff but for the past year I have had to deal with the service department for my VIP program (free oil changes and car washes). Last night I went in for my 15000 mile oil change and was presssured into the 15000 mile service plan for $150.00. I was told that it would void my VIP agreement if I did not get that service. I was also told that it would void out parts of my warranty if I did not get the service provided at their service department. As far as the VIP program, they can toss it. I have had to make appts for my oil changes and then it takes over an hour to get my car back. Once I had to wait 2 hours for the car to be completed and then there was grease stains on my mirrors (interior and exterior) and wet boot marks inside of the car. The warranty cannot be void by not using their service department. It is against the law. I can do all of my own oil changes and routine maintenance at home without voiding the warranty. The fact that it was written on my last work order could affect how my warranty is covered in the future. When it was brought up to the service writer, he attempted to argue with me. This will be the last time I go for any service at Metro Mitsubishi and Hyundai unless it is for warranty work. And finally, why would I pay the $150 for them to do a 15000 mile service plan when all they are doing is checking the levels on fluids, changing the air filter and rotating the tires? Last time I checked, a tire rotation is $20 and and air filter is $7. Doesn't make sense for me to pay that much for something I can get done at my neighborhood garage where I am treated kindly and not like some chick who doesn't know her way around a car.
