Do NOT use this dealer’s service department.
My husband and I have a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. We bought it new from a different dealership and changed our service to Antwerpen in Columbia when we moved to Marriottsville. This dealership is 30 minutes away as long as we avoid rush hour traffic. It is the closest option. Our previous service dealership cared for the vehicle and we never had any associated costs, other than routine maintenance. Since changing, we have paid over $5300 for a vehicle that is still under warranty. We started noticing that every time we took the vehicle in for maintenance, they were recommending extra services such as new tires because they said they were starting to dry rot (not true). In June, 2024, the sunroof would not close all the way. We took it in for service 6-7-2024. We were called back to the dealership later that day to pick up a rental car since they needed to order parts and needed to have it reviewed if it would be covered by warranty. When we arrived back to the service desk, we were told they didn’t have a loaner car and sent us to an affiliate to pick up one there. When we arrived at the affiliate, we were given a Kona and an apology since they were not comparable vehicles. They had the vehicle for 3 weeks. Every time we checked in, they said they had no estimate for when it would be available. My husband was ready to leave for vacation the evening of June 27 when he received a call at the end of their day from the service department telling him he needed to return the rental and pick up his car the next day because they were closing. He explained he was ready to leave for his long weekend off and they said they would charge him for the use of the rental car. They had his vehicle for over 3 weeks, never was able to supply a pick up time, but suddenly they were demanding that he delay his vacation because suddenly there was an urgency to the matter. When we received the paper work, it is noted that a company called Paymer and Phillips picked up the car on 6-17, but no note when it was returned. We were not aware the repairs were being performed off site. We walked away with $1144.24 in add-on work.
We stupidly returned for routine maintenance on November 8, 2024 and were told we urgently needed brake work. My husband agreed to the work. $2670.20 later, we picked up the car. As my husband drove off the lot, he noticed the brakes were squealing. He called and talked to the service department. They explained this was normal, that they needed to “brake in” and to give it a couple of weeks. The breaks continued to squeal. On December 4, 2024 we returned to the service department for inspection. We received a call informing us that there was evidence of overheating and that we would need to pay for more brake work. Finally, we realized there is no trusting these bamboozlers and we declined their service. Interestingly, the brakes stopped squealing and the service people we changed to found no problems with the brakes.
If they told me the car needed to be washed, I would not believe them.
