I contacted the dealer in Salmon Auto in Salmon, Idaho - Lifetime Idaho
I contacted the dealer in Salmon Auto in Salmon, Idaho because I had purchased there before, and it had been stress free. Contacted the dealership on April 15, 2024 regarding ordering a new GMC Sierra 3500, the owner stated that we would have to wait until they got an allotment to be able to order the new truck. When speaking with the owner he asked if I would be trading my old truck in and I said that it depended on what the trade in value was. The owner said it didn’t matter to him that “if we can make the numbers work, great, if not you can sell it yourself”. The allotment came on May 17, 2024, at which point I was able to custom order all the items we wanted on our new truck. We came to an agreement on price and it would be around the middle to end of August for delivery. At that time I ask about my trade in value on the truck and was told they would get back to me with a figure. The sales manager’s assistant text me a trade in value on June 25, 2024, at which point I text back noting it was too low and I would not be trading in the old truck. I did reach out to the owner who said he could go up a thousand more for my trade. I advise him that I would not be trading the old truck in and thought everything was still good to go. I contacted the sale manager’s assistant on August 14, 2024, to get an update on status of new truck and was told the truck was in Montana and should be ready next week. She again ask about running the value of my old truck and I said no I would be selling it myself. Then on August 15, 2024 the dealership owner called to advise me the new truck was in Montana and would be here next week, then he asked me about my trade in and again I said I would not be trading in the truck. He offered me an extra thousand trade in, which I said no because I would be selling it to a family member for the price they were offering. The owner then says that the price he quoted me for the new truck was contingent on me trading in the old truck and that he wouldn’t make any money if I didn’t trade the old truck in. I replied that this was never discussed and noted our original conversation said no it was not contingent on me trading the old truck in. The owner then says that things have changed and that he was not selling me the new truck for the quoted price because he could get more money out of the new truck than what he quoted me. I told him that that is not the way I do business and didn’t want the truck at any price. This was the worst buying experience and I would never buy another vehicle from them.
