My wife and I rotate cars when we travel to our second - mgaly
My wife and I rotate cars when we travel to our second home sometimes for months at a time.
Twice when we returned home the battery in my Passat TDI was dead even though the battery is less than a year old. Both times I exchanged the dead battery for a new one where I bought the battery (COSTCO).
The COSTCO associate, seeing my past history on dead battery's, mentioned that I might have a control panel issue due to possible system low voltage and suggested a trip to the dealership.
Upon speaking with Palmetto 57 Volkswagen's Service Manager, Rolando Sanchez, I explained the above dead battery circumstances and he immediately inquired when the new battery was installed since COSTCO doesn't do any battery installation work. I mentioned that a nephew does Road Ranger work and he installed the new battery three days before (including weekend days).
Rolando ran a diagnostic test and all the results pointed to a bad battery which confused me since I had just exchanged and installed a new battery and the Check Engine light was still being displayed. Rolando reset the Check Engine light and asked when my next long trip would be since the battery needs to be regenerated within the diagnostic system.
I mentioned my wife and I were traveling to Tallahassee next week to visit family for the Christmas holidays and Rolando said that will fix the the battery problem. Should the Check Engine light be displayed during our trip do not be alarmed but rather come see me upon my return.
I drove away from the dealership with a renewed sense of security for our upcoming trip after being provided: (1) a diagnostic test, (2) interpreted results that I could understand, and (3) given guidance with future instructions all within fifteen minutes at NO charge!
