We were delighted with our purchase, until we encountered some major car issues, shortly afterwards. The two of us, tried to settle our issues, with the service department, including Cook’s Assistant Manager; but, left the meeting feeling very disappointed and dissatisfied. I gave a full account of our experience, in a customer review. Shortly after writing the review, we received a phone call from Cook Volkswagen’s General Manager, Frank Schaffer. He allowed us to explain reasons for our discontentment, and he vowed to make things right, for us. Frank Schaffer, true to his word, made things happen! I was so blessed to work with Teena as I needed a car in a very tight timeframe. I was driving 2 hours away and Teena kept her word through the process. Let me tell you what happened: I contacted the dealership and salesman ‘Wayne’ assured me that the specific car, I was interested in, was in the parking lot and ready to be sold’. The next morning I called again to let them know we were driving 2 hours one way from Philadelphia to see and potentially buy this car, Wayne was busy so Bob told me he could see the car from his office window and the scratches we thought we saw on the Internet were reflections...the car had no scratches and was in perfect shape’. With the intention to purchase this car we took the drive from Philadelphia to Bell Air MD to Cook car dealership... Arriving, they were visibly scrambling and there was no sight of the specific car and no sight of Bob or Wayne.....so Larry, the manager took us outside (probably to avoid havoc) with 2 keys in his hands for different cars..guess what! The car I specifically called about was not there!!! It was in the body shop 2 hours away....! We still were interested in the car, so asked for body shop photo's and a calculation of the price... while waiting it became clear we fell for a trap from the salespeople and to top it off the price on the Internet was a not negotiable and was even more including the more than $1000 bodywork! we wasted a 6 hours, [4 or driving and 2 for waiting in the showroom to get some answers] Bottom line: Shady Liars at C(r)ook auto sales Bell Air MD! By far the worst dealership I’ve ever dealt with I bought my used car from Cooks back in August of 2018. I purchased a 2012 Chevy Malibu with approximately 64,000. From the day I took possession it h I bought my used car from Cooks back in August of 2018. I purchased a 2012 Chevy Malibu with approximately 64,000. From the day I took possession it has been a headache with no help what so ever from Cooks. Two of the four tires had leaks in them which took them twice to fix. I also told them the brakes were squealing and started to grind. The first time I took it they said nothing was wrong with the brakes. On my way home the breaks continued to make those noises. When I got home I looked through my paperwork and contract to see about the extended warranty I was told I had to purchase. The purchase price for the car was $8977. When I was going through the contract the purchase price shown was $13,500. I questioned this and was told because my credit wasn’t good the bank put a fee on the purchase price yet the blue book value was $9700. I’ve purchased over a dozen new cars over the years but never had such deceitful practices in the contract. Now back to the issues. I again took the car in for the same brake issue and again was told they were fine. I also told them that the gas mileage I was getting was horrible. I was getting 19 highway and 16 city which was averaging about 18 mpg total for a 4 cylinder they said that’s typical for the age and mileage on the car(?). I also told them about heavy fumes seeping into the cabin of the car for the first few minutes it was started which was and still is nauseating but again nothing done. I had the car back again for the third time in roughly 45 days for the breaks. I was told they used cheap break pads which are known for making noises and that I could upgrade for an additional fee (parts and labor) which in my book is unacceptable since I have had an issue since I bought it. Over the next several months I called and left several messages and got no response and the times they did take my call they said give them a few days and they would get back to me with some answers which I still have not received a call back. The sales team, general manager and finance manager are the shadiest salespeople I have ever encountered in all my years of buying cars. I waited to post this to see if they actually cared and would return my calls which unfortunately they have not. Please buyer beware when dealing with this dealership. More
