I knew what we wanted and we were prepared to pay cash. The no haggle pricing was nice and the experience looking at the car and what not was fine. The trouble started the moment they knew they had a sale. The business manager called to set up a time to pick up the car and originally it was to be at least two days. For a dealership of this size, I find this unacceptable. I can go into almost any dealership and walk out with a car and yet their inability to meet customer demands prevents this and this was even admitted to by their business manager. I got over that issue and scheduled a time to pick up the car two days later. I was then called and informed it would be three more days due to an open recall. My issue with this is that we were buying a $25k certified vehicle and the recall had been issued over a month before. A certified vehicle should not be on the lot with an open recall. I was getting frustrated and began looking elsewhere and wouldn't you know a local Honda dealership had a similar vehicle. I called and guess what? They were aware of the recall and already had their vehicle fixed. How is it the largest Subaru dealership in the area couldn't figure out how to do that. Fast forward, we still decide to buy the car. We reviewed the certification checklist and several "no's" were checked dealing with the interior. I actually asked what that was about and if rips had been found and was told by their business folks that "no, that means we didn't look at that". A few days after picking up the car I found a small rip in the drivers seat that we hadn't noticed before and I think I was flat out lied to. We looked at the vehicle during the evening with poor lighting. Yes, we should have spotted this but I think to push the sale through they resorted to lying. They also forgot to include an accessory we ordered, which they charged us more than $60 more than I can get the same item for through Amazon, so I had to drive back out to pick that up. Final straw was someone called to ask my opinion and experience. I explained all of this and was told that I would be contacted within 24 hours by a manager to address these concerns as they wanted to ensure everyone a great experience. Guess what? That was four days ago and no call. Take your Subaru business to Spurr in Brockport. By far a much better experience and dealership. Ms. VanBortel should be ashamed of this type of service. More

Mrs. VanBortel runs an exemplary dealership, VInce Bovenzi my salesman was outstanding, never have I had the courteous treatment, from a highly intelligent, polite young man. Kevin Hunt, assisted me with the finances, and again, I was astounded at his level of professionalism, courtesy, and intelligence. Today I had my 6-month service visit, and again, nothing but the most courteous polite service advisors, and you feel great every encounter with any of the outstanding employees at Van Bortal. I am a Van Bortel Subaru buyer for life. I will never buy another automobile from any car dealer but Van Bortel. . More

I had inquired about a used vehicle I saw on the site, and then showed up to the dealer later that day to look around. I didn't see that I had received an email response, but I had. Joelle made a point to come over and introduce herself and take over helping me as she was following through with my initial email. The car I originally was looking at was no longer available, but she did a great job going through the list of over comparable vehicles that were also in my price range. I ended up with something a few years newer and with more features but at a price that I found incredibly reasonable. Jacob handled my initial finance and warranty conversations and helped me understand all of my options (I had never financed before, so this was huge). Both Joelle and Jacob took notes on the details of the car that I wanted addressed (minor scuffs, scratches, an extra key fab etc.). When I came to get the car, it looked brand new and someone took the time to go through every detail and initial setup of some of the car features. Tammi then met with me for final run around with paperwork and financing. She did incredibly job reaffirming everything I had already been told, as well as explaining some of the other fine print details on the millions of forms. I cannot express enough how pleased I was, everyone took great care of me and made my first time financing a car an enjoyable experience. More

As Saturn was not in business anymore and GM did not provide great service, I needed to look elsewhere. After reading multiple cars reviews, on line searches and customer satisfaction reports Toyota and Subaru where on the short list. A trusted relative pointed me to Van Bortel Subaru. For the first time in some 50 odd years of car ownership I traveled outside of county to purchase a car. I had to wait two months for delivery. Why? It was worth it. The sales staff was friendly, honest and did not pressure me after the on line searches. The pricing was great and a fair trade in for my car. When I picked up the car service staff assisted in showing us all the new features. I am now sold on Subaru. More

My salesman, Vince, suggested I speak to Kitty Van Bortel, owner. She reimbursed me for my travel expenses and offered to replace the car. A slight mix up in everyone understanding what she wanted to do, besides, there's a waiting list for this car (4 months). So it took longer than it probably would have, but on Monday the transaction took place. I now have a 2016 Outback at no additional cost to me. In all of my 50 years of buying cars I have never seen or heard of a dealer doing something like this. Many YAHOOS to "Kitty Van Bortel". Please consider purchasing your next vehicle from her. More
