In review of the 2008 F350 Super Duty: According to Carfax, there were 2 previous owners before the current owner took possession of the vehicle in August of 2013. The mileage at that time was 68,402 miles. Carfax documents show that the current owner took the vehicle to Valvoline and Pep Boys for his minor maintenance needs. He did visit a Ford dealer in January of 2014 at 80,414 miles. The vehicle, when brought to Tropical Ford for the very 1st time, had 144,834 miles on it with no past history of how it was taken care of other than simple maintenance. As phone calls were made and information was exchanged, the owner was asked if he wanted us to go forward on the repair of the low-pressure fuel pump which supplies the high-pressure fuel system. It was explained that this was needed to start with, in order to assess if this was the only problem with the vehicle. As the technician discussed with the owner over the phone, we then discovered that the high-pressure pump was not putting out fuel. While trying to identify that problem, it was discovered that the cooling system was under pressure, indicating that combustion from the engine was somehow entering the cooling system. We then conducted a relative compression test which identified cylinder number 8 as compromised. Cylinder 8 was showing an 8% compression loss which by Ford Motor Company standards indicates that there are serious issues because 3% is the max allowable. As with any other customer, we give an estimate of the cost associated with the best recommendation that we see is reasonable, but yet carries the best warranty for the customer. At this time, that was a full engine replacement which carries a 2-year unlimited mile warranty. It was the customer’s choice to proceed further and he decided not to. We are still willing to work with the owner to get the truck repaired. If the owner believes the truck is not worth fixing, we can refer them to our sales department to see if we have a truck that may fit their needs.
