Thank you for your review. I regret that you had an unsatisfactory experience with our dealership. Your 2004 4Runner arrived with a Check engine light and a complaint of shaking at start up. As is standard process your vehicle was sent to one of my Certified Toyota technicians for diagnosis. This ensures our recommendations are accurate and unbiased. What was found was a diagnosis of #6Cylinder misfire only on cold start up and the coolant was leaking into the cylinder overnight. Our recommendation was to replace the head gasket rather than the coil pack replacement that was performed by Manhattan Toyota. The reasoning was that when we swapped your coil from one cylinder to another … the misfire still showed on the #6 cylinder, identifying this was not the issue ; the coil pack replacement would only disengage the check engine light masking the root cause and presenting an issue in the near future. I am certain that the disconnect initiated in our description of the diagnosis and the resolution, for that I apologize. As you can understand, training is a big part of how we improve. I will utilize this experience as an example of the importance of guaranteeing that our customers thoroughly understand their vehicle’s performance and the best possible way to resolve any issues. Of course, we can only provide recommendations for safety of your vehicle. I hope that you will trust us in the future to repair your vehicle the best way we know how. Please contact me anytime to discuss this matter or any issues that may arise in the future, I am happy to help any way I can.

First of all, having been in the service industry for over 40 years I would have expected the call I received from Toyota's Service Manager, Joe Modica on Friday March 28th would have started off with an apology for what transpired. Instead, the first words out of his mouth were to ask me to take down a this posting which depicted my experience. Next Mr. Modica continues to try to justify his pricing by explaining it is a learning curve, which I would rather not be a part of, or that perhaps his consultant didn’t explain the work which was involved in the repair quoted, such as replacing the engine pully's, or the timing belt, or sending the heads out to be serviced which he admitted was not necessary in order to have completed the suggested repairs and which would have saved me $500 on the heads alone. As I advised him, It is was not up to him to spend my money and that the decision to save $500 should have been mine, not his, to which he had to agree. In addition, my vehicle has a timing chain, not a belt, which does not need to be changed, so that was another unnecessary expense which could have been eliminated from his estimate and why replace perfectly good engine pully's if there is nothing wrong with the ones on the engine. The reasoning that all of these repairs he was discussing were unnecessary seem to escape him and it also seems like he is still trying to sell the unnecessary "bundle repair pricing" at a much inflated price which is certainly not to my benefit , nor would it provide a customer service for anyone. I work hard for my money and I don’t appreciate a service facility trying to extract funds from my wallet which could otherwise be used for other family matters. I also don’t appreciate dealing with service consultants that neglect to inform a customer of the level of repairs & replacements and discussing what could be modified to save a few dollars. The only pressure I felt from this whole experience was to approve the original $3,900 (+ tax) or my car would not be repaired. In my opinion this take-it or leave-it attitude of one price repairs is designed to maximize this so call service center’s revenue and certainly not designed to provide a service to a loyal Toyota customer. So too, the only time I ever heard from the Mr. Modica was not about my servicing problem, but instead it was to ask me to remove my experience from the web posting. These are, in my opinion, bad representatives to have in the trusted positions they are suppose to be in when dealing with peoples investments and hard earned money, especially with the attitudes, ethics and questionable behavior they have.
