Stereotypical Bad Car Dealer BUYER BEWARE Toms River Volkswagen should update its sales slogan to BUYER BEWARE. My daughter recently purchased her very first car here, a 2006 Red VW Beetle Con Toms River Volkswagen should update its sales slogan to BUYER BEWARE. My daughter recently purchased her very first car here, a 2006 Red VW Beetle Convertible with only 45,000 miles and started having automatic transmission problems the very next day! Shifting problems became progressively worse over the next few weeks until the vehicle got stuck in first gear entering a traffic circle, an extremely dangerous situation. On contacting the service manager within 2 weeks of her purchase to report the issue, I was informed there was no warranty and the vehicle would not even be covered under the State lemon law which a sales manager referred to at the time of the sale verbally to comfort me when I asked about a warranty. The service manager told me the car was sold "As Is", and Toms River VW would offer no warranty or coverage of any kind. He acknowledged that Beetles had a history of transmission problems related to transmission valve bodies, but we probably would not have noticed this on our 10-minute test drive. He assured me however that Toms River Volkswagen would never sell a vehicle with such a problem if they knew about it. Turns out the car did require a new valve body costing $2091 to keep the car on the the road, but I would not allow this dealer to do the work. On another issue, after arriving at a negotiated price, the finance person insisted my daughter pay an additional $319 for window etching (a pre-printed line item in the sales contract) listed as "optional". However, when she said she did not want the “optional” etching, he said they could not remove the charge. We had to meet the sales manager who tried to explain that the deal they negotiated included the fact that they calculated they would also be getting this additional $319. I had to explain that it’s not a negotiation if only one party knows about the charge. We should have walked out right there but my daughter was in love with her new car, we had been there 4+ hours and she agreed to a slight reduction in the price of the car, but it was not enough to offset the etching. Bottom line is if you buy a car from this dealer it would be a good idea to keep several thousand dollars in your bank account for any unexpected major repairs. Hopefully you get the idea of the type of dealer Toms River Volkswagen is. Buyer beware. More
Customer Service totally lacking - 0 Stars Kept waiting 30 minutes for a scheduled appointment with the GM. Seriously not good customer service to keep an upset customer waiting. Spent another 40 minutes discussing my entire experience of purchasing a vehicle and my dissatisfaction with the treatment I've received. She promised to phone me following week, no call. I phoned 2 weeks ago, but the GM wasn't in. I let the receptionist know that I was expecting a call the previous week, and wanted Melissa to call me. No call 3 weeks later! (Customer Service 101 basics.... keep your promises to your customers; when you say you'll do something, do it!) This sub-standard customer service from the GM is just continuing the service I have received to date from the sales team and now the GM herself. Now it seems, I'll have to take more time out of my schedule to reach out to the owner and schedule an appointment with him. Too bad. Without getting into irrelevant details, simply put, the Toms River VW dealership changed the deal and disrespected me. This resulted in their losing a cash paying customer, any referrals and my future business. In my opinion, practices of shenanigans and arrogant demeanor most likely in the long run will be attritional on their business. So in short, be careful not to be caught off guard and remember your not required to shop local. I feel a distance of 75 miles to search for a car isn't really far when you take into account one might accumulate 15,000 mi annually. More

One month later after trying to get my license plates I was told a mistake was made and the real charge is .20 per mile. The manager refused to honor the written contract so I settled for a monetary payment. I received written confirmation of the monetary payment and two weeks later I have not received payment. I called the dealership and spoke to Ray (says he runs the place) and after first hanging up on me said he would look into it. Next step is to file a complaint with NJ Division of Consumer Affairs as this is the second written agreement this dealership has refused to honor. More

Had the car marked up over 4k, rushed me through the sale and never told me I didn't have 72 hours to bring it back after I mentioned that law was the only reason I was signing for the car right then. Not until after I signed the papers of course. I'm stuck with a car that makes noise which they said they fixed and didn't and bald tires, one of which was put back on backwards and is a different size than the other three! Incompetent salesman, arrogant, rude, idiot of a "manager". Gave me his cell when insight the car and when I sent him pics of the bald and backwards tires, told me it was his personal cell and he didnt appreciate me sending him pictures of the car and that I had to deal with someone else. Had a loaner for longer than had my new car. Car was sitting there done and no one called me for a week. The car still has issues that they refuse to fix, one of which is illegal for them to sell the car with!! But since I bought it as-is, I'm screwed. I guess morals has no place in a car dealership. Never offered me a warranty. If you're not buying brand new or spending $20 or $30,000, don't bother-you're a second class citizen to them and they'll treat you as such. I will be going to court over this and telling all of my friends and family as well as leave a bad review absolutely any place I can to save anyone from the misery of dealing with this horrible place. Very kind and assured me she would get back to me with the information which she did in a timely manner. I then visited the dealership and was greeted by Mr. Frank Signore. Frank was FANTASTIC! I highly recommend Frank to anyone looking for a New or Pre-Owned vehicle, trust me you do not want to see ANYBODY else! He and his manager, Ray Mcanena, worked hand in hand in making my experience one of kind. I went in not expecting to take home a vehicle that day (In fact I even told them I wasn't) but due to the generosity of both Frank and Ray, I left with a beautiful VW CC! I am not an easy person to please, Frank and Ray went above and beyond and overcame every obstacle to sell me a vehicle. I am beyond pleased with my experience and I love my car. I now have a lasting impression and I will certainly recommend this dealership to my friends and family. A huge Thank-You to Frank & Ray & the entire Toms River staff! More

Right off the bat they were never pushy, listened to my needs and gave me plenty of space to make my decision. Tony recognized that I was buying the car, not my husband, and spoke/sold to me rather than him (something I've experiences and have been frustrated by in the past!). Ken, from the service department, had experience with the exact model I was looking at and took his time to show every feature and function in the car. Once I was comfortable with the purchase, Jorge got all of the paperwork completed and I was out the door in no time, confident in my decision to purchase my car from this dealership. The dealership gave me a better trade in allowance for my old car and they had the exact model and color of Golf that I wanted. The sales staff was incredible, they went out of their way to explain the features on the car and answered all of my questions. It was a great buying experience and the dealership is gorgeous. They can't do enough for you at Toms River VW, when I came in early on Saturday they had fresh bagels and coffee waiting for customers. From there it was smooth sailing. I completed the purchase and I was out just before lunch! I can not say enough about the great level of service that this dealership offered me! If you're considering buy a Volkswagen you should definitely buy from them! They even offer loaner cars when you bring your in for service. More
