Worst mechanic scam ever! July 2016 a/c on my 2011 Subaru Outback went out. I recharged it at quick service, and put in die to see leaks. It did not help, apparently there was more serious problem with a/c, so I went to Subaru "specialists" at Team Mazda Subaru. I bought my car there brand new in 2011, and serviced it there before. I scheduled diagnostics on my car to figure out why a/c is not working, it lasted about 3 hours. After 3 hours service desk man came and said that problem was kinda obvious - a/c hose needs to be replaced. And he estimated it at around $800 for parts and labor. Also he brought a long list of things that were "due" on my Subaru including bunch of stuff replacement, like filters, pads and flashing bunch of liquids, which added my bill to close to $2,500. Again, I came with specific problem, and did not ask for none of that crap, I don't have $2,500 just laying around waiting for someone to claim. $800 bill for a/c was more than enough. I asked him to order hose, and scheduled repairs for the next week. I brought my car for scheduled repair, and agreed to few small replacement. Service guy noted that I choose "the cheap ones", and said that I really need to complete all of it. I left car for a/c repair. In a few hours, I got a call from Team Mazda Subaru, the service guy called to tell me that my 5-year-old Subaru needed engine cooling radiator replaced (!), and it will take about $500. I told that I cannot really afford it, and at this time I'd like to fix a/c, so I don't cook my 2-year-old in the car in 100 degree weather. In a couple hours he called back, and said that my car is ready. When I came to pick it up, he told me that bill with all replacements and a/c fix was supposed to be $1,200, but because "they did not have to use one of the parts, they saved me money" and bill was only $800 or something like that. However, he added that my a/c still does not work, because I refused to replace engine cooling radiator (wonder why it was not discovered during diagnostics?) . I asked my husband, and he said that engine cooling radiator has nothing to do with a/c. I tried to clarify what exactly I got for $800 - my a/c still does not work. In a matter of fact, a/c behaves EXACTLY the same as before I drove it onto Team Mazda Subaru lot. I asked to talk to manager, was told he was not there, but they keep my car until I pay. I happened to have spare keys, so I drove off in my car and told that I will talk to manager before paying. Next day I spoke with service manager Gregg - he said that I have to pay or I don't get my keys, that I know nothing and my car needs engine cooling radiator replaced, and a/c is not going to work without it. I asked him to mail me a detailed bill, and all parts that were replaced on my car. I did not refuse to pay bill, but I needed second opinion. I spent the whole day calling around services, and everybody laughed that engine cooling radiator needs to be replaced for a/c to work. I received no bill, nor a single part that was replaced for $800. Few weeks down the road we were going to town and on accident shut locked the door of the car with my 2-year-old and keys inside, 11 am, 95 degrees, no a/c, spare keys are hostage in Team Mazda Subaru - decision was quick to break the window. $79 plus half the day to install it by ourselves. December 2016 - still no bill, no parts from Team Mazda Subaru, keys hostage at Team Mazda Subaru, started a car to warm up, on accident shut the door locked. $75 to Key and lock service to unlock it, half the day lost waiting around. Called Team Mazda to find out when and how I can get my keys back. Service manager Gregg, yelled at me and my husband that we need to pay the bill, and hang up on us. I called again. Manager Jason listened to the story, said that he will figure it out and contact me, and never called back. I looked up reviews, and saw replies from Manager Rob Studebaker, who says customer service is his priority. I called and asked to talk to him, he was not available, asked him to call me back, no call back 2 business days. Worst mechanic scam ever! More
