We have purchased three new cars from Surf City Nissan since 2003. We couldn't be happier with sales, service, etc. They are very friendly and courteous -- every time all the time. Our initial contact with this dealership was very good. Our initial contact with this dealership was very good. We worked through a deal on a stock Versa which my wife liked alot. It had 20" chrome rims Our initial contact with this dealership was very good. We worked through a deal on a stock Versa which my wife liked alot. It had 20" chrome rims and low profile tires, and a leather interior, which she really likes. We were not told that these pieces were aftermarket and would not be warrantied. We bought the car new with 101 miles. The paperwork makes no mention of the warranty being transferred to the aftermarket dealer. About 2 months after the purchase, one of the wheels had a problem and went flat. The dealership refused to stand behind the products even though we had purchased not one, but two extended service contracts. These contracts clearly state 2 things: 1. Maintenance plus plan (Gold), page 3, item 11 states: "This agreement provides tire road hazard protection...This agreement provides protection against damage to (wheels and )tires, caused by roadway debris such as potholes....." 2. Nissan Warranty Manual states on page 39: "What Nissan will do (bold print) If a part or accessory to be repaired was originally installed by an authorized Nissan Dealer( in this case Douglass that preceded Surf City, Surf City purchased their inventory)it will be removed and reinstalled after repair at no charge for parts and labor." We were sent out to a wheel shop for repair, charged 150 dollars which we had to pay to get the car back, and left unhappy. Four months later the same thing happens to a different wheel. Same refusal to stand behind the product. Same 150 dollar charge. At that point we asked that these wheels be removed and more appropriate size wheels and tires be put back on the car. The dealer refused and promised that his wheel shop would call us and we could have an outside deal done " at cost". That meeting became heated and uncomfortable for us and for every other person in the showroom who clearly heard every word. We left, unresolved and of course the "wheel guy" never called. Last weekend , 14 months after purchasing the car, a third wheel failed.Road service was performed by the closest National brand tire dealership.( We now have moved 450 miles away from Huntington Beach for employment reasons so contacting Surf City was not practical) They discovered that 4 inches of chrome had delaminated off the inside of the wheel and caused an unrepairable leak. (Chrome wheels cannot be rechromed after they delaminate because it pits on the remaining surface and the chrome will not bond.) With 3 out of 4 wheels now damaged we were advised by the local Nissan dealer (who was very helpful to the extent he could be) to get Nissan Corporate Customer Service involved, which we have. Most, if not all Nissan dealerships in the US are privatley owned so the final decisions are up to the dealership, according to the Nissan customer service rep. The rep was very good, but if the final decision is up Surf City, we are not hopeful for much. We could be wrong but.... at this point stock wheels and tires would be better and acceptable. We will see how Nissan stands behind their product, but at this point, I would probably say you should avoid Surf City Nissan. More
Terrible sales and customer service practices. They have made false promises but do not deliver after the sale is over. I purchases a Nissan Murano from them. They got me in the door by quoting an ultra l made false promises but do not deliver after the sale is over. I purchases a Nissan Murano from them. They got me in the door by quoting an ultra low price. When I got there, they said it was a mistake and gave me a higher price, but said they'd make it up w/ other things (free cargo nets, 2 free oil changes anywhere, etc). After the salesperson (Sam Anderson) said he sent the next day, it ended up taking 2 months and multiple calls and emails to the manager to get them. Now that I've hit 4k miles and want my oil change, they are reneging on that as well (despite the fact I have an email from them saying they'd pay for it anywhere). Below is the back and forth responses from them through the Better Business Bureau where they basically have given me a big F-You (btw, BBB has been the only way to even get that as they refuse to return any phone calls or emails). In the end, beware as these are horrible people and a systematically corrupt place. Complaint Description - Posted 11/1/2010 9:29:35 AM I question Surf City's sales and customer service tactics overall. Starting with initial inquiries to vehicle, they quoted us the wrong price to get us in the door. When we got there, they did not honor this price, but promised us other things to make up for this. These promises included free cargo nets and first two oil changes for free. It took multiple follow-ups with their head of sales (Fred Anguila) and dealership manager (Larry Smith) to finally get the cargo nets resolved - the sales person said he'd send them out the day after we purchased the car, but it ended up taking ~2 months to get resolved. Since then, we have hit 4000 miles on the car and would like to take it in for an oil change and are having the same problems of no response. We have emailed our sales person (Sam Andreson), then followed up a few days later with a phone call. A few days later, we have tried leaving a message for the manager (Larry Smith). It seems once Surf City has your money, they stop paying attention and simply ignore their customers. We would like this oil change honored by Surf City, but at a different Nissan service center as they said upfront this could be honored anywhere. We would also like our next oil change to be honored hassle free when the time comes. Complaint Summary Ever since sale, have been very unresponsive to follow-ups (e.g. promised cargo nets, 2 free oil changes) and unpleasant to work with. Resolution Sought Provide me with the 2 free oil changes as they had promised upon sale of vehicle. I would like them to honor this oil change at a different Nissan service center than theirs (they said it was fully transferable). In general, would like to have emails and phone calls returned (sales person Sam Andreson, head of sales Fred Anguila, and manager Larry Smith have all been equally unhelpful and at times rude). Additional Information Date Problem First Occurred: 7/1/2010 Product or Service: Purchased a new Nissan Murano LE Model Name or Number: Nissan Murano LE Date Purchased: 6/5/2010 Order Number: 01367 Amount In Dispute: $70.00 Company's Response Company's Initial Response - Posted 11/02/2010 surf city has honored eveything promised to Mr.Chan. Nothing seems to be exceptable at all to him. Mr. Chan was offered 2 oil changes at our dealership. We can honor them at another dealer. He his more than welcome to bring his car here.If the price was too high he didn't have to buy the car. We thank Mr.Chan for his business and wish him the best. Initial Response Summary surf city has honored eveything promised to Mr.Chan. Nothing seems to be exceptable at all to him. Consumer's Rebuttal Consumer's Rebuttal - Posted 11/07/2010 If Surf City honors 2 oil changes at a dealership of our choosing, as indicated in this response ("We can honor them at another dealer"), and indicated in an email we have from time of purchase, then I would be satisfied on this request. However, when I last spoke to dealership (JP), he emphatically told me he would not honor at another dealership. For record, our standards are not extraordinary. We've simply requested a response from our salesperson (has not responded to emails or calls for 3+ months), and living up to promises (e.g., oil changes honored anywhere, timely delivery of cargo nets and car manual, resolution to issues with our entertainment system). None of those things have been solved timely (we've been trying to get an oil change for 3 weeks now) and getting a response is like pulling teeth. We have records of email after email we've sent without response as well as initial emails of what are now empty and false promises. We challenge them to produce any records of responding promptly or good customer service! Regardless of this outcome, we will review on blogs to warn others of this business' poor practices and work to have them removed from Amex auto prog Company's Final Response Company's Final Response - Posted 11/10/2010 Thank you for your kind words! We have done everthing possible to help Mr.Chan nothning seem to be good enough! We wish him the best and hope he has many happy nissan miles! we will honor the oil changes here at surf city nissan. thank you surf city nissan More
We purchased a vehicle in February 2010. The initial process started out fair but, once we committed to buy it went downhill from there. We were told one thing and another happened. We wanted to finan process started out fair but, once we committed to buy it went downhill from there. We were told one thing and another happened. We wanted to finance through our credit union, I was told that they were online with them and it would be no problem. I received a call from the finance dept. the following Monday and was told the loan was approved through the bank they worked with. When I questioned that I was told that they don't work with ANY credit unions. Next, I found a $499.00 extra charge that was not agreed too. I was promised a refund by Ken Heinsohn, the finance manager. When the refund did not happen I called and was never able to speak to him and could never get a return phone call. In the end I spoke to Nissan directly and after 6 months was refunded the $499. This is one dishonest dealership. We are now in the market for a second Nissan and will stay as far away from them as possible. More
I received a flyer of 20% discount on the service from this Nissan service center. I brought my car in for a maintenance service. I was suggested to do a comprehensive package that is $1500 without give this Nissan service center. I brought my car in for a maintenance service. I was suggested to do a comprehensive package that is $1500 without given me the options. Once I found of the options, I ended up paying $500 for another service package. The 20% discount couldn't be used because the packages "were already discounted". Hence, I felt the flyer was just a marketing tool to lure customers to them. On the same after after having the service done, the maintenance sign lit up. Opening the hood, I found the battery had white powder along the metal parts, when it was supposed to be clean as indicated on the service detail. The coolant liquid was nonexistent to visible eyes. Did they forget to refill it after having it flushed? A missing cap to one of the white bottle (name) was found upon opening up the hood. Had I not open it, I would not have known that they lost it. I asked the service specialist of why I was not informed of this missing cap and he said he forgot. He states the part would arrive 3-5 days because he had to order it. It's been 8 days or 6 business day and the part has not arrived. I thought by bringing my nissan car to a nissan service I would get a stress free experience. After going through all these experiences from one service, I doubt if anything was done for my car. I do not recommend this Surf Nissan car service to anyone. They will cause harm to your car. More
Absolute HORRIBLE used auto buying experience....Typical car dealership! Some 'optional' products were purchased during the transaction and after some buyers remorse, decided I no longer needed or wanted th car dealership! Some 'optional' products were purchased during the transaction and after some buyers remorse, decided I no longer needed or wanted them. I called the dealer, only to find out that these 'optional' products were no longer my choice but a requirement as a part of the transaction. Tried my absolute best to call and speak to reps regarding the products and expressed the fact that I didn't need the product, they REFUSED...that's right refused to remove them and mind you, I hadn't even handed a check over for the car I purchased or received my vehicle for that matter and I can't remove 'optional' features?!!? Called in spoke to Ken, at any rate absolutely rude. Was difficult to get a word in edgewise, without him self-asserting the fact that I could not do anything in my power to remove these features. While in the process I came to realize that I over paid for the car...in the process of financing the car at my credit union, the vehicle was blue booked, again didn't have the car in my possession and I'm already upside down! When I approached from the standpoint that financing would not be possible because the kbb came in lower than where it should be, I got a price 'break'....wow what a huge favor they did me. To all you out there my only piece of advice, do your homework and really know what you are signing before you sign and who you are dealing with, but best of all...DO NOT show up to this place More
We had been looking for a new vehicle for weeks. We visited several dealerships and we were getting really tired of the sales pressure and the run around. We ended up going to Surf City last Sunday and visited several dealerships and we were getting really tired of the sales pressure and the run around. We ended up going to Surf City last Sunday and met Chad. We had already driven the Murano at another dealership, but Chad went over all the features with us again on the car. We did not know about half of them because when we went to Connell Nissan the just wanted to push us into a deal. We got a great price on our new Murano and we love the car. The entire staff was great. I would recomend them to anyone. More
