IDIOT SERVICE MANAGER My Toyota pre-owned Avalon was to have been certified at delivery on July 27th. This was not done. At delivery all service consultants told me oil had not been changed. They said oil change due in September. In early August maintenance light came on. Went back to Sullivans. They shut off light and again told me oil change due in September. In early Sept. I was talking to Toyota (corporate) and in passing I mentioned my car was certified. What a shock to learn that it was not certified.! Further, I found a sticker which indicated car had last been serviced by Sullivans on March 27th, 2019. MIleage in March was about 48,800. Mileage when maintenance light came on was about 53, 500. In early August, car was due for oil change, tire rotation and an inspection.. I questioned Service Manager who insisted oil had been changed on July 6th. Like the certification, the JUly 6th oil change had not been registered with Toyota. In early August all Sullivans did was shut off the maintenance light. After a few calls to Toyota I had found out more about the maintenance record of my car. (No carfax has yet been provided,} Spoke to Sullivans on Sept. 11th about certification. Took car in on Sept 12th for oil change, tire rotation, etc. I was presented a certificate of Certification dated Sept. 11th. They had backed the mileage to that of the day of delivery, July 27th, about 52,800. I feel the mileage on the certificate should be running from when they actually certified car,On Sept 12th, mileage was 56,026. On the 12th, Service Manager was quite abrupt and doubled down that oil had been changed, though no service consultants or Toyota knew nothing about it. Clearly Service Manager was lying to me. I do not like being lied to. Further, when I took delivery of car, in July, Navigation destinations of previous owner were all still stored. Home address in Florida, home address in Mass, yacht club in Plymouth, summer home, friends/restaurants in Florida, etc. This is personal info which should not have been released. But it shows me that car was not likely inspected in detail, as per reasonable expectation for certification. They knew the car and didn't think they had to bother. On the 12th, I asked Service Manager why car was due for oil change if it had been done on JUly 6th. He said he just wanted to make me happy and would do the oil change again, He gave me nothing. In September oil change was a little over due. Speaking to some men and women in service department, they assured me they are required to diligently register all maintenance with Toyota, Again, Service Manager was clearly full of baloney. Finally, Tracie called to state she had reviewed service record of car. She admitted car was due for oil change in early August.. Oil had not been changed on July 6th. Servicde Manager is not very manly. He should has "fessed up" and spoken to me man to man and square up. No one is perfect. Mistakes can be made. But don't double down on a lie!!!!! Lying to a customer should be an actionable offense. More
