Buyer Beware I cannot begin to describe the lack of professionalism I encountered while dealing with this place. I located a car at this dealer that I was interes I cannot begin to describe the lack of professionalism I encountered while dealing with this place. I located a car at this dealer that I was interested in purchasing. I live in California, but I was looking for a specific car, and I'm guessing this dealer had one off a trade-in since they are not a Lexus authorized dealer. I contacted the dealer and was assigned to Kenny Spurling as a salesman. I wanted to purchase a Lexus IS350C FSport Edition. The car was a 2011 with 87k miles listed for 23k. I told them if they'd cover the shipping to California ($850) then we could make a deal. I didn't ask for anything additional off the price of the car. They agreed and had me forward my license, insurance, and other identifying information. Next, they asked me to wire $22,136 to them, without ever completing a piece of paperwork, this should've been my first red flag, but I was naive and trusted them. After completing the payment, I paid $884 to the shipping company and was told the car would be ready to ship the following day. At this point I assumed the deal was done. I received a call from a sales manager a few hours later, and he was giving me completely different information. He told me he actually wasn't going to ship the car until Thursday. He stated that he needed to mail out the paperwork to me 4 days later, and I would have to overnight it back to him. This caused a major problem for me because I was moving in ten days and needed the car shipped immediately. If they waited 4-5 days to ship the car, it would be arriving at a place that I no longer resided in. I informed him of my concerns and his response was, "We can go back and forth about this all night, but it's not going to change anything." Great tone to have with a customer who just purchased a car off you, I certainly never learned that in Sales 101, I'm guessing you attended different classes than I did. OF COURSE, they asked me to wire the money and then tried to change the terms of the deal on me. This is a violation of consumer protection law. Their excuse for changing their mind was that they've had a lot of fraudulent out of state purchases. I PAID CASH, I WALKED INTO A BANK, IDENTIFIED MYSELF, AND COMPLETED A WIRE TRANSFER EXACTLY LIKE YOU YOU ASKED ME TO. There is ZERO question as to whether I am who I say I am. If I was trying to finance the car, I could understand, but I PAID CASH SO RELEASE MY CAR. They refused to use a legally binding electronic service like Docusign, and they refused to fax the documents straight to my bank where I could sign them and have them notarized by the bank. The ONLY way they were willing to do the deal was by mailing documents back and forth, like we are still in 1980. The internet has been around for 20+ years, if you as a car dealership cannot successfully navigate an out of state purchase without getting scammed, that's on you, but it doesn't give you the right to change the deal on me after I've all ready paid. I wrote a four page letter to the owner asking him to release my car, and didn't receive a response. I was told to be awake at 6:30AM and expect a call with a decision on whether they would ship my car or not. Guess what, they never called, I woke up that early for absolutely nothing. I called the dealership myself and asked for the top finance person around 8AM, shortly after I received a call from Kenny's dad, Ken Spurling, who told me, "We cannot release your funds back to you for two more days, only the girls know how to do it and they aren't in today." Again, operating a business like it's 1980. How do you run a car lot and not have someone who can access a bank account on a Saturday, a day which is probably the busiest day of the week for you? How old was the kid who sold me this car if his dad is the one having to call me and clear up his mistakes? I went to my local police station and filed a police report. They stated they would be in contact with the Newnan Police Department. I spoke with my company attorney, and we retained the services of a consumer protection attorney in case the money is not back in my account by Monday at noon. I wasted a good 6-7 hours trying to make this deal happen. I feel sorry for anyone that has to deal with this when buying a car. I've bought several cars, and it's rarely taken me more than an hour to complete the deal and drive off with the car. Take this as a warning - I wish someone would've warned me. More
