Made a bad impression good On 16 September 2019 I when to the Southern Buick GMC Lynnhaven for a state inspection on my 1999 Chevy Blazer. I knew the vehicle was in excellent co On 16 September 2019 I when to the Southern Buick GMC Lynnhaven for a state inspection on my 1999 Chevy Blazer. I knew the vehicle was in excellent condition and was surprised and appalled that it failed for the tail light assemblies, the same tail lights assemblies that had passed on 13 previous inspections in dealer service departments. The quoted cost of repairs was very high. So I thought this is a hustle. Having a degree in industrial engineering automotive technology and also a background in law enforcement, I decided to investigate the situation. I consulted the VSP state inspection manual, the VSP approved equipment guide and actually talked with a state police safety division supervisor. I also consulted the GM suggested price for the parts and queried the labor rate for Southern's service department. I returned to Southern Buick GMC Lynnhaven on Wednesday 18 September 2019 for re-inspection after effecting the repairs in my shop. I was fortunate to find the inspector in the service advisor area when I arrived and was able to have a conservation with him. I can say that the inspector, Mr Ronald W Dozier, was not the person that I had thought him to be. In fact he is probability among the most honest state inspectors I have had contact with. The situation with my vehicle occurred for several reasons: My ignorance of the state requirements for rear lighting, my failure to ensure the required DOT/SAE id on the light assemblies and I did not pre-inspect my vehicle as I normally do. The truth is that the tail light assemblies were manufactured without the proper DOT/SAE approval stamps. Mr. Dozier was correct to reject them. In all the past inspections I had pre-inspected for light operation and to make sure I had no burned out blubs. Other inspectors had observed the proper operation of the equipment and not checked for the DOT/SAE approval stamp. The pricing for the shop to do the repair was over the top and I do feel that it could have been priced a lot better. But that is a non-issue as I will always, as long as I am able, effect these simple repairs myself. No one can beat my cost or the care I take with my personal vehicles. So in summary, I was wrong, the shop and inspector are honest and my trust in Southern Buick GMC Lynnhaven is restored. More

Second time will be my last time I work in Customer Service so it is is difficult for me to write this review. I would like to start off by saying the Tammy at the Service Desk is alw I work in Customer Service so it is is difficult for me to write this review. I would like to start off by saying the Tammy at the Service Desk is always helpful and easy to deal with however I would not recommend taking any vehicle here for service. To make a very long and painful story short I've had my 2015 Chevy Suburban in there twice for service (technically 4x since I've had to return both times). The first time was related to warranty covered engine work that was initially misdiagnosed and I had to bring my car back just days after it was returned to me and then I was without my vehicle for 3 weeks. Once that repair was completed, I again had another issue with my vehicle which was the vacuum pump related to the breaking system- it was addressed and fixed however when my car was returned to me there was a warning light on- who returns a vehicle with a warning light on? A mechanic came out to do a quick check and said this shouldn't be anything that causes an issue. It was the trailer breaking system warning light...So, I told them since I had already been dropped off with two kids in tow that I would call them to schedule service again within the week. I had the vehicle for 20 minutes and it completely died....Called the dealership and they agreed to have the vehicle towed back to the dealership..Now here's the fun part...Tammy called and told me that they weren't sure what the problem was but that the battery was dead and I needed to pay for a new battery because the truck had the headlight controls set in the ON position....well, I had the vehicle for 20 minutes in the middle of the day who would've done that? Not me...so I explained to them that I would not pay for the battery and to have the Service Manager call me...an hour or so later I received a call from Kenny who said, and I quote, "If we need put the new battery in to open up the lines of communication then we will do that for you"....I felt it was a bit condescending...I literally just told him to put a new battery in and figure out what the problem was...long story short it was a bad Body Control Module...which DRAINS THE BATTERY! I have an extended warranty so none of this is about money its just the fact that every time I get the vehicle back it's not actually fixed...2015 Chevy Suburban. I cant help but feel taken advantage of especially when I got the call to pay to replace the battery....it's also worth mentioning that every time I have taken my suburban here for repair they call me with the bill total to pay without verifying that we purchased the extended warranty through SOUTHERN... I would think that there would be some information in the system that signals the dealership that we have an extended warranty...Instead I am always asked to pay the full bill first, then I explain to them that I have the extended warranty, and then they ask me which one I have....We also went ahead and had the brakes replaced and rotors during our last visit. When I went to pay the bill it was off by about $200.00 and took the sweet girl in the cashiers office over 30 minutes to get it fixed. I think I have been more than fair and allowed Southern ample time to make things right. I continue to be disappointed. I will say that Tammy has gone out of her way numerous times to find a loaner car for me which I greatly appreciate and I feel bad that she has to make these calls...This will be my last vehicle purchase from Southern and my last visit to their service center at this location. More
