Wow, did I hit the jackpot with this sales-guy, JAY. He had his little all ready to tell, perfect, from how he used to be in law enforcement to how now he's retired and sells cars on the side for fun. How every used car salesperson is a professional liar and cheat and how he just couldn't understand how anyone could be that way - how did they sleep at night after treating good people so badly all day long? After spending most of the morning with this joker discussing the car I wanted and all the nonsense you get when buying a car, I asked him about the timing belt, asked if we could reduce the price by $500 because it would need replacing within a couple thousand miles. Up to this point he'd thought of everything: had all the paperwork with vehicle history, receipts, photos.. everything you could possibly ask for. He also had a photo of the date that the timing belt had been replaced, that was after saying he didn't have proof of that - somehow he finally found a picture of the year it had been replaced. IT WAS was 11 YEARS AGO. ELEVEN. Maybe he was hoping I wouldn't notice the year and just see the date. So that's when I asked for the $500 discount which is very reasonable knowing that repair would easily cost upwards of $1000. He was quiet for quite a long time and finally said that he had decided I wasn't the right person for the car. SO, here's my advice. Don't let them know you're smarter than they are or that you've caught them in a lie or discrepancy because if you do, they get their little feewings hurt and WILL NOT SELL YOU THE VEHICLE. More
