Both Saab and Volvo seem to have a laissez-faire relationship with their franchises, with the result that many if not most of their dealerships are substantially below par in regard to customer rela relationship with their franchises, with the result that many if not most of their dealerships are substantially below par in regard to customer relations, satisfaction, and retention. I have an excellent on-going relationship with my Volvo dealer, but had to weed through a lot of bad sales experiences and drive 85 miles from my home to finally find a winner. Car-buying is like a fairy tale: you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince. Saab suffers from the same problems, and a survey of local area dealerships on this site and others will reveal a high level of customer dissatisfaction with their sales and service. After having had several negative initial experiences with other dealers, I lucked into Shaw Saab in Hingham, a single marque South Shore dealership, and have had an excellent shopping and buying experience thus far. Their facility is bright, clean, inviting, and well laid-out. I called in advance, always a good idea rather than walking in cold contact, to make an appointment with the Internet/Sales Manager to test-drive several vehicles. He was not in on the day I wanted to come by, but Jason Gordon was extremely helpful, friendly, and informative. My wife and I drove three Saabs, made a choice, and placed an order within 24 hours. It is a shame that other area Saab dealerships cannot offer an even remotely similar customer experience, but I would unreservedly recommend Shaw Saab to Boston-area customers for a pleasant, hassle-free shopping and buying experience. As with Volvo, I have found that it is more than worthwhile to drive a good distance in order to find a decent dealership and be treated like a human being. More
I bought my first Saab from 128 in Wakefield 5 years ago, and I love the car. I set out to purchase another Saab, this time for my wife, and came close to pulling out my hair at several other dealerships. I and I love the car. I set out to purchase another Saab, this time for my wife, and came close to pulling out my hair at several other dealerships. I visited Charles river (nice guys, very convenient location to me in Boston), but their selection was limited -again, good visit. 128 was a horror show, and despite them cleaning up the service department, im not a huge fan to say the least. Herb chambers was ok, but only as we were walking away did they mysteriously 'find' that they had what we were looking for. Shaw saab was laid back, informed, not pushy , and has an amazing service bay for their mechanics- while I havent yet brought the car in to be serviced, just seeing the environment in which they work (spotless, fresh paint, waxed nightly, organized) left me with such a sense of comfort that im happy to reccomend it to anyone in the Boston area.
