The customer purchased a 2023 Altima in 2022. We gave her fair market value for her trade according to KBB, however the customer owed double that on her payoff. There was no choice but to add the negative equity into the purchase of her Altima. I don't know what the customer is meaning by a $2000 fee. She did have to purchase GAP insurance since she was financing more than the value of the car she was purchasing because of the negative equity. This may be what she is considering to be a fee?

Per the documentation, optional Gap contract was $895 for the full MSRP charged at $32,640+$3500 non-negotiable lifetime powertrain warranty +TTL +$800 document fee, and about $8k in negative equity is what should have been applied/was discussed/expected, as I had a buy back quote from Carvana in hand +the $2,500 added was a "Market Adjustment", and the lady snickered and said "yeah" when I made the comment that it as a "just because we can". What the documentation doesn't clearly show is what all when into the full amount financed at almost $45k PLUS $3k I gave them in cash. BUT, this dealer (judging from their comment) is apparently not concerned with ever wanting me to return, and would like to believe that I am the fool who traded her car with over 15k negative equity already built in.... I am the one who needed a car and signed this paperwork and have paid for this car, so yeah, the most expensive Altima in the southeast.

The market adjustment that the customer is referring to is, during the time of COVID when vehicles were scarce, manufacturer labels clearly disclosed a Market Adjustment on the retail price of each vehicle. This adjustment was clearly marked on the window sticker of each new vehicle model that it applied to. This adjustment was also disclosed on the quote of the selling price of the vehicle. I have watched the video of this transaction and the selling price of the vehicle, along with the monthly payment, were clearly disclosed during the signing of the contract and deal documents. There is nothing we could have done to make the tranaction more transparent than it already was.

The vehicle was a 2016 Maxima and had over 300k miles. She came in for a check engine light and oil change. We scanned it for codes and it had current Mass Air Flow sensor code and current P17F1 CVT Judder. I told her and quoted her for both repairs and she declined. I also emailed and presented a copy of her MPI in which she declined all.
