My experience with this dealership was the worst I have ever had. I contacted the sales department to inquire about a vehicle and spoke to Carey Trowbridge. I wanted to ensure that the listing was correct ever had. I contacted the sales department to inquire about a vehicle and spoke to Carey Trowbridge. I wanted to ensure that the listing was correct (Autotrader.com listing). I explained to him that we lived 3-1/2hours away and that we would be willing to come see drive, and pay cash for the car if everything checked out. I was very satisfied that a fair price was offered to us without much hassle. I specifically asked if the car was smoked in and was told it was a non-smoking car. I explained that my wife has allergies and that a smoking car was not an option, at which time Carey assured me that this was not the case with this car. I called Carey to confirm that we would be making the 240 mile trip in the morning. At this time, he assured me that the car would be pulled from the lot and I double checked that the car had not been smoked in and asked if there were any problems we should be aware so that there would be no surprises. He assured me that it was a non-smoking vehicle and had no more than normal wear for a 2007 vehicle. It was a long way to drive, but to this point the entire experience had been very positive and we were assured that we would not be disappointed. We were so excited we arrived ahead of schedule. Carey was busy so Jason Roe went and got the Vibe and pulled it around for us to drive and inspect. Our excitement quickly diminished as the very first thing Jason pointed out damage to the front windshield, but he was perplexed about the chip with spider webbing as well but was going to check to see if his windshield guy would be willing to come fix it. I did find it odd when he pulled the car around that the A/C was running on max and all 4 windows were down all the way, but assumed it was very hot when he got into the vehicle (not that he was airing it out). So we hoped in and took the car for a test drive and inspection. As it was already hot outside we rolled up the windows and prior to leaving the lot we were already very disappointed with the odor in the car and cleanliness of the vehicle. We pulled off in a shaded parking lot to inspect the vehicle closer and determine the exact source of the odor in the car. It did not take long to realize that there was still white pet hair throughout the vehicle in the carpeting. We were hoping this was the main source of the odor but suspected it was not the only culprit. The drivers seat appeared to have many small burn marks in the area that would be exposed between a persons legs while setting in the vehicle. Then when we inspected the spare tire compartment our suspicions were confirmed by the amount of ash present, this was a smokers car! We could not believe that we had traveled 3-1/2 hours to discover we had been lied to by Carey Trowbridge. Upon arriving back at the dealership, we were greeted by Carey and we were asked how we liked the car. We explained to him our disappointment in the car specifically that it had been smoked, it was not clean (not dealership clean), the front windshield was very pitted and chipped in multiple places, the air filter contained leaf material and debris, the alloy wheels all showed corrosion (I dont feel this is normal wear for a 3 year old vehicle, nor have we observed this on other similar cars we have looked at). I expressed to Carey all of these items to which he really had few answers for other than to say that they could repair the windshield and detail the car if that is what it would take (it also seemed that he was embarrassed about the cleanliness of the vehicle, I understand him not expressing this in front of customers). I have never seen a car on a dealership lot that was as dirty as this car and could not beleive they did not service the vehicle. We reluctantly agreed to go inside hoping for some sort of apology, especially for the smoke odor (remember I asked him each time on the phone if the car had been smoked in and was assured it had not been). When I told him my level of trust had diminished he got defensive and that is where our experience ended and we abruptly left. I wish now that I would have requested to talk to Jason, we were so mad and disappointed but rather than make a scene we choose to get on the long road back home. I hope our experience at Roe Pontiac Buick was the exception and not the norm. I felt it necessary to make everyone aware of our experience at this dealership. I conveyed nothing but honesty during this entire experience and could have been spared a wasted day, $100 in expenses, and a long frustrating trip. If after reading this review you still choose to go to this dealership, I would stay away from Carey Trowbridge he obviously cares little for prospective customers and is only looking to make sales. I contacted Jason Roe about our experience and got an e-mail apology from him never from Carey Trowbridge. More
