Rockland Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM responded

The dealership and the clients (Mr. and Mrs. Fields) came to terms on a car deal but the client requested we do a locate and buy another vehicle they specifically wanted. We had options that were available in stock but they wanted something specific. So we took a deposit as a commitment from the customer to buy the vehicle from another dealership for them. Basically, the dealership bought a $38000 vehicle for the customer and the customer was asked for a $500 deposit. The deal was originally written on Nov. 13th and we made special consideration to hold the vehicle until the end of the month so the client could take care of some personal matters. Then on Nov. 29th, the customer decided to inform us that they no longer wanted the vehicle after they already agreed upon terms, left a deposit, signed a purchase order and told us to buy and pick up the vehicle they requested. The clients asked for their deposit back and we explained why we initially requested the deposit due to us locating and buying a specific car for them. We try our best to work with all of our customers, repeated business and new. Deposits serve as commitment to the transaction, especially when we have to buy a specific vehicle. Furthermore, I told them I would transfer their deposit to their next transaction as a credit after they handled their personal matter. This way they wouldn't be losing their deposit and they would have a credit towards their next purchase. They said that was unacceptable and threatened me to the point that I had to file a police report. The police came in and filled out a report and called the customer to inform them not to return to the dealership. In addition to all of this, the dealership offered to resolve this situation if they called to apologize to the two managers that were threatened. It has been a week since then and we have not received a phone call. We take pride in our reputation and wish we could have come to a better understanding in this situation. Vincent P.
